The Majesty of the Grandfather Clock
I’ve only ever been exposed to one grandfather clock on a regular basis—the clock that sat in the hall of my Christian school. It was a gift, and it sat in the hall calling out the hours and parts of an hour during class time, its deep, majestic sound being heard for the whole floor.
There’s something regal about grandfather clocks that tell time (or at least appears to tell time) with the pendulum moving. It’s a unique form of art and a joy to behold.
Now that we’re gearing up to start educating our children, I think back to that clock and the fond memories surrounding it.

Time’s Effect on All Things
They say that time heals all wounds (or wounds all heels, depending on who you ask), but what I’ve found is that time actually blurs the truth. There’s another old saying that goes something like “Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” Both of these are at play in our country right now.
What would you learn about the founding of our nation from what we see today? How about if I wanted to see about the founding of Rome? Does it look anything like the current Italian government? If I looked at research from the past 100 years of government in France, would I know about Charles the Great?
