Declaration of Indepedence by David Amsler

Most Americans can recite the first part of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, or at least paraphrase it.  It is here where we read that all Men are created equal and have been given the rights of life, liberty and property not by the government, but by “their Creator”.  It is on this that our government rests—regardless of what the Supreme Court says.

It’s nice when law professors agree:

• The rights of individuals do not originate with any government, but pre-exist its formation.
• The protection of these rights is both the purpose and first duty of government.

This week will mark the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell for the military.  A few months ago, New York State became the largest state to accept homosexual partners in “marriage”.  Many people may say “So what?  How does it affect you?”

Truth be told, the immediate effects of these rulings will not be see, because the acceptance of a homosexual lifestyle is not the problem, but a symptom.

family at seaside A call is made at night from a place three states away by a person who has a history of making claims of abuse1.  Claims are made that young people are are being forced into marriage and sex, though at worst they’re probably consenting minors.  Regardless of the current moral acceptance of teacher/student sex, homosexual sex, and pre-marital sex, people get up in arms.   (See the end of this post for an update!)
