Ticket to be Decided By a Duel

Lincoln Dinner Guest Governor Scott Walker by John PembleArm wrestling to see who will run for President and Vice President is funny—especially as one of them isn’t even in the race yet:

Asked by Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin if he would be open to announcing in December that the two of them would run as a ticket, and settle who would be the nominee for president and vice president later, Walker replied that some supporters had pitched that idea.

“I’ve actually had quite a few people, grassroots supporters, donors, and others, who have made that suggestion,” Walker said.

“For now, you know, Marco is a quality candidate. He’s going to be formidable in this race as things progress. And if we were to get in, we’d be as well, and we’ll see where things take us.”

He added that he and Rubio have joked that people mention the two possibly pairing up and said they would likely “have to arm wrestle over who would be top of the ticket.”

Should The Congress Let the Democrats Have Whatever They Want?

Capitol Place 2Rand Paul is in the news, with many others, that think that the GOP should just give the Democrats whatever they want, so they can own it:

I have yet another thought on how we can fix this. Why don’t we let the Democrats pass whatever they want? If they are the party of higher taxes, all the Republicans vote present and let the Democrats raise taxes as high as they want to raise them, let Democrats in the Senate raise taxes, let the president sign it and then make them own the tax increase. And when the economy stalls, when the economy sputters, when people lose their jobs, they know which party to blame, the party of high taxes. Let’s don’t be the party of just almost as high taxes.

[Real Clear Politics: Rand Paul: We Should Let Dems Raise Taxes and then Let Them Own It]

Seems stupid to me.  You were elected to do what was best for the country, and if you believe the Democrats plan is not good for the country, shouldn’t you go down fighting?

Who Should Get the Republican Nomination

This past April I turned 35.  I’ve always joked that when I become 35, then I’ll be able to run for President.  After all, when you’re in your early 30s, there aren’t many “milestone” birthdays left.  With that theme, my dining room was covered in Red, White and Blue and even my cake told me that now I could run for President.

Except, who has ever heard of a Software Engineer in the Conservative Party winning an election for President of the United States?

Is God a Republican?

The two major political parties in the United States are made up of sub-parties, each of them with different priorities or agendas.  During the last twenty to thirty years, the Moral Majority was a big and influential part of Republican party, with its major issues being social issues:  Abortion and Homosexuality being major ones.

Fast forward to 2010, we find that the the Republican party is now mostly a party of fiscal conservatives, and the libertarian group are showing their sway.

So, where does this leave Christians?

Election 2012

Republicans Header It was said that the election in 2008 was the earliest start of any election season, with many of the people that were vying for the job campaigning in early 2007.  Political pundits were having fun trying to guess not only who was running, but who would win.

As we all know now, they were all very wrong and had the wrong calculus, so it shouldn’t surprise us to see that they’re at it again—trying to figure out who will run against Pres. Obama in 2012, and talking about it like Pres. Obama will be invincible and have the approval rating he does when he runs again.

Palin’s Biggest Asset and Biggest Weakness

McCain chooses Sarah Palin as Vice President pick at a rally in Dayton Ohio on August 29, 2008Gov. Palin’s biggest asset is that she’s a real person.  Not that I believe the other candidates are space aliens, but she is the first person on either ticket that’s not a Senator, does not have money in their background, and oh yeah, she’s a girl.

As the Politico reports, even some of the new revelations about what is going on her family may end up helping her, rather than hurting her.

How Do You Like Your Taxes?

October 15th, 2007 Viewed 1586 times, 1 so far today

Pay TaxesRep. Paul Ryan (R-W.S.) and two other Conservative House Members have a plan for your taxes:

Give up your current deductions and your annual earnings up to $100,000 would be taxed at 10 percent, with a 25 percent rate on everything above that. But that is not all. The bill would repeal the hated Alternative Minimum Tax, giving up $840 billion in revenue over the next 10 years. Government would have to get leaner.
