What If He Asked You to Marry a Spouse That Would Cheat? (Hosea)

May 24th, 2018 Viewed 372 times

Hosea 1:1-3 – Hosea was asked to marry a woman that would be unfaithful, just like Israel

He knew that she would be unfaithful from the beginning. He knew that it was to show that Israel was going to be unfaithful to God.

What would you do?

Many of us spend years thinking about who we will marry. Many of us come up with lists of traits. On none of those lists is someone that we know is or would be unfaithful to us.

God sometimes asks of us a difficult thing, or has something happen to us to be an example or an encouragement to others.

Seductress

Imagery is used quite often in the Bible to make a point.  A lot of what Christ said to His followers were in the form of parables1.  So it shouldn’t surprise us to find an analogy in the Proverbs that compares people to things.

Wisdom is often personified as a woman, and very often we see something compared to something else.

In the case of the passage we’re looking at today, “the wife of your youth” is compared to water, and there’s a good reason for it.
