He Did What Was Right – A Clear Command

Israel’s Rich Foundation

Unlike any other country, tribe or people on Earth, God singled out a specific people to invest into, and from that people would one day come the Savoir of the world! From the very beginning of His relationship with them, God showed Himself to them and expressed to them how they could best serve Him.

To Moses, He gave the Ten Commandments. He told them that He would be their provider, and gave explicit instructions on how they were to worship Him. These instructions included how to build a tabernacle to Him– what to make it out of, how long it should be, who could come in and how to transport it. He told them how they could worship Him correctly. This included what sacrifices to bring, what made an acceptable sacrifice, and what did not. He even told them how to arrange themselves around the Tabernacle, and who was to depart first. He directed them by a pillar of cloud and pillar of fire to show them where to go.

God promised to be with them while they were with Him.

Here’s a humorous take on what Moses could have done if he had Google:

The Doctrinal Hypothesis

JEDP, I knew you well.

There is scholarship in different circles that tries to discredit the Torah (or first 5 books of the Bible—specifically Genesis) by stating that it was complied by 4 authors—none of which was Moses.

Tackling this head on—there is no problem with a different writer for Genesis.  Clearly, it’s not a problem for Moses to have edited documents that he had on hand1 that we do not have access to.

Furthermore, there’s a passage at the end of Deuteronomy that could not have been written by Moses, because it records his death.

Neither of these present a problem for the Bible or its veracity.  Since the Bible is a conglomeration of different authors, the question does not lie in “who wrote this” but “what was written.”

To fully talk and critique the Documentary Hypothesis would take more space than time allows.  For those that are interested, I suggest that you purchase or borrow The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict Fully Updated To Answer The Questions Challenging Christians Today.  This book is full of great facts about the Bible—both Old and New Testament—and goes into great detail about JEDP and the Documentary Hypothesis.

  1. At that time, Moses may have had documents created by Adam himself, brought over on the ark.  Some scholars believe that some of the verses would indicate different authorship, much like journaling or blogging today.  If that is the case, we may be reading what Adam and his descendents wrote that has been long lost to time in other places! Not Me

Yesterday was my church’s 50th anniversary, and for that anniversary our pastor invited the first pastor of the church back to offer the message of the morning.  That message was in keeping with a series that we just finished up a few weeks ago, in that it brought to focus the understanding that it’s not about us, it’s all about Him.

When Parties Disagree

What do you do when two parties disagree– be it in the family, in the church, or at work?

I believe that there are really three solutions that are available to us. We can choose to break ties and leave the relationship, we can choose to submit to whomever is the decision maker, or we can choose to stay, but continue to complain about the decision.

But what does the Bible say about disagreements?
