The neat thing about the Internet is that there are many sites to help you out.  Just when you think that you have to “go-it-alone” there’s someone out there that has done it before and that can help.

I’m constantly relying on the Internet to figure out how to do something, how to fix problems, or how to write code for my day job.

There are many free services out on the Internet that will help you get your feet wet with the daily ins and outs of blogging.  And it’s great fun to write your post and get your first comment.

Some sites even build little communities around your blog, so that you feel that you are part of a bigger group of people.  All of this is well and good, if you really want to spend all of your time writing something for someone else to use and have rights to.

The truth of the matter is, if you’re a business or an individual and you want to do business in the world today you have to have a website.  One of my side jobs is helping churches get on the web, because more of my generation are actually going online to find out more about a congregation before even stepping foot inside its doors.

And what can be done on the web is limitless.  From this blog—where I can type my thoughts from the comfort of my home and you can come, read, interact just like we were neighbors—to sites where you can buy materials, everything is being done on the web.

There are many reasons to shed that shared blogspot.com or wordpress.com blog:

  • You are the next Pro-Blogger, and you wish that wordpress.com would let you run ads.
  • People have been looking for you at your own domain name, only to get lost on the way because you’re actually under someone else.
  • You’ve visited someone’s blog and they have some great widget that you’d like to run, only your hosting provider doesn’t allow it.
  • You believe that you’ll move someday, and you don’t want to lose all the link love that you’ve accumulated over time.
