Is It Time To Stop Giving Gifts

Since when did a time that’s supposed to be full of joy become one of dread and obligation?  You know what I’m referring to—the fact that every year everyone wonders whom they must find a gift for, and whether they’ll get one in return.

I’m firmly in the camp where I do not believe that I have the right to tell someone that they should or should not get something for me—that I should give out of how I have been blessed and to be a blessing rather than what I will receive—but how does that balance with the fact that many people will take the fact that I gave them a gift as an obligation to give something back.

I know, the holidays are over.  Because of my schedule and the changes that are going on in my family’s life over the past month since I was told that I had to find new employment, I’ve been a pretty delinquent blogger.  That couldn’t stop me, however, from noticing this great post by Christa Taylor at Empowered Traditionalist, and from wanting to take part.

So, pardon my lateness.

So said the scrawling on the bathroom stall I found myself in Monday morning.  Now, I guess I could have taken it as a warning, and left immediately, but instead I found myself reflecting on the fact that we’re all mortal, and we all have a short time on Earth to make an impact.
