What It’s Like When You Lose the Election

November 20th, 2012 Viewed 2047 times

0ElxUser mkb95 on Reddit posted this photo of Gov. Mitt Romney at his local gas station claiming that it’s recent and that Romney was moving to La Jolla and was out getting gas.  It’s amazing how much different a person can be in a few weeks!

Reading this account of how the Secret Service left him the night after the election, it really must be surreal:

Of all the indignities involved in losing a presidential race, none is more stark than the sudden emptiness of your entourage. The Secret Service detail guarding Governor Romney since Feb 1. stood down quickly. He had ridden in a 15-car motorcade to the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston for his concession speech. He rode in a single-car motorcade back across the Charles River to Belmont. His son, Tagg, did the driving.

It must feel really strange.

Allen West concedes to Patrick Murphy

In one of the last contested races of the 2012 Election, Allen West of Florida, a vocal, tea-party backed Republican Congressman, has conceded the race to Patrick Murphy after a recount of early votes showed that he would not be able to beat Murphy in a total recount.

“For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process,” West said in a statement to POLITICO. “While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.”

Is Rush The Reason Romney Lost?

November 20th, 2012 Viewed 1383 times

Rush LimbaughAs Sean Hannity pointed out recently, the first couple of weeks after an election is the time that the losing team stands around pointing fingers at who is to blame.  It finally has gotten around to Rush Limbaugh:

GOP strategist Mike Murphy said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the primaries were “driving the Republican brand right now to disaster” and that Republicans needed to acquire a view of the country “that’s not right out of Rush Limbaugh’s dream journal.”

Next up was GOP strategist Steve Schmidt, who last week at a University of Delaware panel discussion said that Limbaugh’s “white, 65 plus and rural” audience is “not what the country looks like anymore” and that Limbaugh was driving a message of “total ludicrous nonsense.”

Rush had a response for both—Murphy got whom he wanted and Schmidt never won a race.  But this goes far deeper.  The GOP is blaming the conservatives, and the conservatives are blaming the moderates.  Perhaps it’s time for a conservative candidate to have a chance, since the last two moderates have lost?

Why I Didn’t Vote Goode and Voted for Romney

November 8th, 2012 Viewed 1915 times

flagI didn’t want either of them—Romney or Obama.  They were very much the same individual, once you got right down to it.  You see, I’m pretty realistic when it comes to elections.  I know that neither individual is really going to get what they want.  They are both going to get some of it, but they are also going to get whatever it is watered down.  On the major social issues, neither of them are really in a place to do any major change, regardless of whether they support it or not.

But on the issues that matter and which they do have control—wars, budgets, spending, etc.—both of them were roughly the same.  Yes, Pres. Obama will get us in more debt, but a Pres. Romney would have done the same thing, just on a smaller scale.

So, why, if I believe that, did I still vote for Romney?

If Obama Didn’t Fulfill Promises, Does that mean He Should Lose?

In 2007, then candidate Obama won the election because he promised many things.  He talked about cutting the deficit, and how he would deal with a looming economic crisis.

When he became President, Obama told the country that we had to enact his stimulus programs, or else we would fall into a Great Depression. He also promised that with his programs we would not see below 8% unemployment.  Real unemployment, when you take into account the people that have stopped looking, is in the teens.

Is this enough to warrant someone else being President?

Romney is Going To Cancel Big Bird?!

October 4th, 2012 Viewed 2063 times

fire_big_birdTo hear the liberals tell it, Romney doesn’t think much of Big Bird—in fact, one could believe that he actually wants Sesame Street and all the other PBS shows off the air!  For the record, my children love Wild Kratts and Word Girl and it would seem that they are in danger too.

Except it’s not all as it appears.

Certainly, Romney did say this during the debate:

I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually like you, too. But I’m not going to—I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for. That’s number one.

Maybe They Should Have Stood By Akin

October 2nd, 2012 Viewed 2025 times, 1 so far today

It was just a few months ago that Mr. Akin became a national name by stating that women that are “legitimately” raped will not have child—something that he has since apologized for.  That hasn’t stopped it from being the source of a lot of jokes and derision or even being used in campaign ads against Republicans.

I mean, even multiple states away, in New York, former Congressman Dan Muffei is using Akin and trying to attach him and what he said to try to better his chances against incumbent Congresswoman Ann Marie Merkle—I just saw the ad this past Sunday!

Was Denouncing the Video the Right Call?

September 22nd, 2012 Viewed 1361 times

Over this past week, with all the Middle East unrest, President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton decided to produce a video to play in the Middle East basically saying, “though it was an American that made the video, it was not produced by the American government.”

Doesn’t this sound a little strange to you?  It’s finger pointing.  It almost seems anti-free speech.  It could be taken as “don’t kill us, kill him for making the video.”

Does that seem beneath the office of the President?

The other thing that bothers me here is that you know that the real problem is not this video.  I mean, these people just wait for anything they can find to justify the chaos they want to create.  There’s a deeper problem, highlighted by one poster I saw which stated that Islam was the best or only religion.

I think those in charge should spend more time trying to figure out what’s really going on in the Middle East and less time apologizing for some YouTube video.

Perry: Eliminate Funding to Planned Parenthood

November 18th, 2011 Viewed 2008 times

In a recent speech to the residents of Bettendorf, Iowa, Governor Perry not only took on the amount of money that elected representatives make and their seemingly permanent positions in Washington, but he also announced that part of his plan was to remove federal funding for Planned Parenthood so that our tax dollars will not go to kill innocent, unborn babies.

This would be a hard fought battle, as Planned Parenthood paints itself as more than an abortion provider, but also as a provider of women’s health.

Who Should Get the Republican Nomination

This past April I turned 35.  I’ve always joked that when I become 35, then I’ll be able to run for President.  After all, when you’re in your early 30s, there aren’t many “milestone” birthdays left.  With that theme, my dining room was covered in Red, White and Blue and even my cake told me that now I could run for President.

Except, who has ever heard of a Software Engineer in the Conservative Party winning an election for President of the United States?
