Are You Doing Too Much or Too Little For Your Spouse?

In How Doing Less For Your Wife Can Make Your Marriage Better, husbands are first encouraged to meet a “Biblical” standard of provision for one’s wife:

Gentlemen – we as husbands are required to provide food, clothing and shelter to our wives. We are required to give them regular sexual relations. We are required to spend time with them, talk to them, know their needs and concerns and give them proper honor as our wife. This is the Biblical definition of what it means for a man to unconditionally love his wife.

This is a tall order and each of us as men fail in this duty from time to time. I think as men often times we can be great at providing our wives with food, clothing, shelter and sex but we fail in the areas of honoring her and knowing her. We can become too wrapped up in our jobs and hobbies to the point where we never talk to our wives.

If you are failing to spend time with or talk to your wife then you are not a husband that needs to do less, but instead you need to do MORE.

From there the author goes into discussing when it’s appropriate to do less.  Do you think most husbands do more or less than they should?

Do You Care For Other Believers?

The book of Nehemiah is one of my favorites.  Here we have a man who was not a prophet, priest, or king, but was a lay worker– a food tester for a king.  This man had risen through the ranks, being part of an occupied people, and he was in a position of importance because he held the king’s life in his hands.

As we journey through this book together, think about his perspective and let’s ask some of the questions that he asked and think through what he thought

Godly Husband: What Do You Care Most About?

January 18th, 2007 Viewed 4004 times

olderhusbandandwifeheader.jpgHard question, guys.  We all seem to have something that we really enjoy doing, whether that’s watching television, playing video/computer games or working on the car.  For me, it’s blogging.  I find real enjoyment and pleasure from being able to write and share my thoughts and ideas.

Whatever the case, you will show what you care most about by the amount of time you put into caring for it and maintaining it.  Take a minute now– I’ll wait– and think about your day in terms of how much time you spend on what outside of working (or even when you’re working).

Godly Husband: You Must Be a Protector

December 19th, 2006 Viewed 8151 times

olderhusbandandwifeheader.jpgOne of the biggest needs your family– especially your wife– will need is that of a Protector.  As more emotional beings, our wives have the need to feel protected physically and emotionally.

You see, our wives trust us with a lot.  They have given their lives to helping us to raise a family, run a house, etc.  They are (more often than not) the ones that are around the house and have the young children.  Statistically, women are preyed upon more than men.  For all of these things, and others, women look to us to protect them.

This means, guys, that you should be providing things to make her feel protected– and guarding her privacy.  It starts with the ability to lock the bedroom door and extends to making sure you have a secure house, that you have a safe vehicle, and that she can trust your heart to be only hers.

We need to be active in showing our wives that we mean business when it comes to keeping the safe and protected.  She needs to feel safe in our arms and secure in the fact that we will protect her until our dying day.

Does your wife have this feeling of protection from you?  What ways do you think that a man can show his wife that he is protecting her?
