Peter’s Teachings on Submission

October 12th, 2018 Viewed 56 times, 2 so far today

One can only envision that as time passed from the Ascension, the Apostles started to realize how important it was to document their witness and describe in detail how to live the Christian faith. Only so much could be entrusted to people through teaching, and so we see the New Testament start to take shape.

Structure of relationships under Christ take shape in all of the these works– churches, marriages, slaves, government– as the Apostles fleshed out how believers were to both be citizens of another world, but inhabitants of this one. How do you be “in the world, but not of the world?”

So Peter is going to take us through our responsibilities as believers in this world.

Kavanaugh vs. Ford Would be Easier If There Were No Politics

Sen. Feinstein and Judge Brett Kavanaugh

I’ve been thinking about the whole Kavanaugh debacle for the past few weeks and have been tweeting out different thoughts about it on Twitter. Having a chance now to hear and read a lot of different viewpoints on this topic, I figured I might as well get my perspective in among the mess and see if I could coherently come to any conclusion… and the biggest conclusion I could come to is that it would be a whole lot easier to get to the bottom of this if there were no politics involved– but then no one would care.

Abortion-Inducing Drugs

In her latest article on the Kavanaugh nomination, Ann Althouse discusses the question about what exactly birth control is supposed to do. Much of the pro-life movement wants to distance itself from the birth control discussion for obvious reasons; however, there is a link.

In the mind of many, abortion is just another form of birth control, only instead of preventing conception, fertilization or implantation, the abortion component of the debate has been limited to discussing the medical procedure needed to remove a baby/fetus from the womb after the pregnancy is discovered.

Has Trump Been Successful In Implementing His Agenda?

In the middle of a discussion I was having on Twitter regarding whether it was right for the Department of Justice to have a guideline not to indict a sitting President, I broached the idea that the reason that we are even having this conversation is that there are many people that believe that Pres. Trump should be indicted and jailed. They are furious that no one will stop him using this means, mostly because they know that the Republican Congress and Senate will not impeach and convict him, so they believe that if they could get an indictment or, better yet a criminal conviction, then the Republicans would have to get rid of him.

This has been in back of the Russian Collusion narrative, the Stormy Daniels affair and the rest– the idea that there needs to be something, anything that can remove Trump from office.

How do we judge if we’re successful?

Am I successful at the right things?

Everyone in life wants to be successful. They want to know that what they do and that their life matters.

What constitutes success is something we internalize from the culture around us. We’re shown examples of people that we are told are successful– the business person that has a lot of money, the politician that has a lot of power. The leaders in our lives that are able to attract attention, the person with the most Twitter followers or the most readers to their blog.

How does someone go about determining if they are truly successful? I mean, there are people out there that are competing at video games and making a bunch of money doing so– does this make them successful? Should we all go do that?

David Counted the Cost

August 21st, 2018 Viewed 211 times, 2 so far today

David enjoyed much favor from God, for he was a man after God’s own heart. In 2 Samuel 24 we catch up to David near the end of his life. David numbered the children of Israel, something the kings were told not to do—their victory was to be found in the Lord.

Upon doing it, David realized his error, but he was punished anyway, and when he was given the chance to put an end and make a sacrifice he went to the threshing floor of Araunah. Araunah offered to give him the floor and the items for the offering, but David would have none of it.

He would not offer an offering to God that cost him nothing.

#QAnon Implies That Everything Ties to the Clinton Foundation

Part of the reason for so many people following QAnon is the fact that some of the things that are shared there are believable. I’m not saying that everything there is 100% truth– anyone who has followed for some time will state that some of what is said by Q is misinformation and what is not is cryptic at best.

Occasionally the links from Q are much less cryptic, as what has happened today, as Q links to a Reddit post that puts a lot of the puzzle pieces together into a coherent, believable whole:

Mollie Tibbetts Body Found

Mollie Tibbetts, a 20 year old young lady who was
found dead after disappearing a short time ago

I can remember hearing that she was missing, and knowing that with how long it was between when she disappeared and that they were still looking that it wasn’t a good sign. Prayers for the family. Fox News has the details.

It reminds me of another family friend that lost a son in his 20s. This is never easy on anyone involved. I was talking to his grandfather just the other day, and heard that the parents still aren’t alright. You never expect your child to precede you in death.

Pray for those around you that have lost loved ones. They need it.

Consistent Biblical Application

Holding Up the Word of Truth

It didn’t take long for the new church to have to wrestle with what to do with the various different practices that those new believers brought to their faith. Not only did different believers bring with them “baggage” from their previous faiths, but they also did not have a single Bible from which to read and understand their faith.

Worshiping How God Desires

August 14th, 2018 Viewed 215 times, 1 so far today
How should we worship the Lord?

Just the title of a recent post by Tim Challies makes me pause to think. The post was titled Why worship any way other than as God desires? and immediately brought to mind the idea that, as American believers, I’m not sure we know know what this is.

Challies article focuses on music in worship, which is definitely a hot-button issue in today’s churches, but a reading of the Old and New Testaments show us that God is much more interested in how we do what we do in service to Him than we are lead to believe.
