For Subscribers – 1-2-2007
Hey guys, just wanted to drop you a couple of notes to let you know what’s going on.
- In order to get a better jump on things I probably won’t have a new post on the site until Sunday when the new lineup begins.
- Check out Home is Where Your Story Begins and whether you tell her that MInTheGap sent you or not, let this new blogger know that you stopped by and encourage her on her quest and blog.
That’s it for now. Let me know if there’s anything I can do for you, and I hope that you’re having a blessed new year.
Light Reading this Week
Being that this week will be pretty crazy with travel, I wanted to let you know that it will probably be a little scarce around here as far as my comments, but I’ll be highlighting some things I’ve been reading with short posts and clips from the sites.
As far as my schedule, tomorrow’s Christmas with my parents, Tuesday is Christmas with my family, and Wednesday is Christmas with my in-laws.
Hope that you are also having a fantastic holiday season, and that God will bless you now and in the year to come.
Christmas Links – 12-20-2007
Today I wanted to share with you some links to warm your heart! Two stories great for this Christmastime:
Man lost in snow stayed strong for kids
A man who was lost in the mountains along with his three children for three days during a snowstorm said he was terrified they wouldn’t make it out alive, but he remained strong for his children and relied on his faith.
Merry Christmas? No. Mary Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you, Mary Christmas. That’s what the former Mary Young is hearing this holiday season, after she married Brian Christmas earlier this year.
Hope you and yours are having a great time together with family and friends!
The Price Protector
Are you doing any of your shopping online this year? Well, if you are you might want to check out the Price Protectr (yes, that’s the way that it’s spelled!). Basically, this site claims that it will monitor an item that you bought to see if the price falls, and if it does, it will send you an e-mail.
Why would you want this? Because many stores have a protection policy in place that says that if, within 30 days, the price of an item changes you can get a refund of the difference. The problem is that you have to keep track of the prices.
So, this site will actually monitor the price and let you know so that you can save money.
Since we’ve done a lot of online shopping this year, I think I’ll be keying in my stuff to have it watch for me.

I just wanted to pass along this piece that I read. It’s included in Five Lessons About How to Treat People and I think that I’ve read it before, but it’s especially touching:
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I’ll do it if it will save her.”
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”.
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.
What would you do for another person? What did Jesus do for you?

A 47-year-old woman pretended to be a 16-year-old boy on line and tormented a 13-year-old girl she knew.
Ann Asks:
After getting the girl to fall in love with this nonexistent boy, the middle-aged woman turned mean, argued, and said “The world would be a better place without you.” The girl immediately committed suicide. Has the woman committed a crime?
No spanks
Jill Stanek brings our attention to the hypocrisy in the no-spanking movement. From the site:
Massachusetts is considering a possible ban on spanking where parents wouldn’t be allowed to spank children under 18. Yup, the people’s republic of Massachusetts is ok with abortion, but don’t spank your kid, that would be just wrong.
However, I would still allow spanking, even if they banned abortion.

Early Planning
I’m looking for willing bloggers who would like the chance to post at MInTheGap while I’m away at my 10 year college reunion in March and I figured that now is as good a time as ever to advertise! If you’re interested in filling this space, drop me a line at MInTheGap (at) MInTheGap (dot) com and let me know. I’ll update you from time to time as to whether I need more people.

Honest Man Returns Mistaken $2M Check
The other day we were in in Payless and they gave us $5 too much change– and we went back and returned it. Probably do the same with a $2M check (after getting a picture of it).
Step Behind the Scenes
This site shows some great tricks from camera tricks to magic to sales tactics. Wow.
The Hidden Costs of Stuff
What can’t you do without? Pare it down to that, and then save the rest!
Today’s Deal
Constructive Playthings has all sorts of toys that you can buy this Christmas that will help build your child’s mind.
This Christmas, my brother got my kids Lincoln Logs, and there’s nothing better for spatial reasoning and deduction than things you have to put together (and it beats them taking apart the alarm clock!).
