What the Media Wants You To Think

Amarillo Model 13 header

Not that you were aware, but Barbie celebrated her 49th birthday last week (thanks, Lydia).  My first encounter with Barbie was not a pleasant one since it dealt with a mischievous boy on our bus.  You see, Barbie isn’t bad in and of herself.  She could be just about anything, and that allowed little girls to imagine what could be.  However, she was also caught up in a society that was marketing women as objects rather than people.

For a society that prides itself in the rights that it gives women, we seem to also seem to enslave them the most.  We simply replace one form of enslavement for another and then expect them to be happy.

Clothing Finally Catching Up With the Times

product_6229

There are many things that have changed in the whole realm of having children since the days when our parents had us. For one thing, dads are actually expected to be in the room and– GULP– cut the extension umbilical cord. They are given all sorts of instructions about not holding their wife’s hand and they see things that their dads never saw (and some never wish to see).

Another thing that has changed is the fashion relating to maternity and nursing. Just a generation ago the whole process was something that was almost hidden away. It was as if you didn’t want anyone to know until the last possible second that you were actually with child. Read the rest of this page »

What’s Wrong With This Picture?

father and daughterI’m going to say this in advance– I apologize for the lack of clothing on the girl in this picture, but I’m using this picture to hopefully make an important point.

The man on the right is said to be the father of the girl on the left. What is wrong with this picture? What bothers you more?

  • That the girl is dressed in a provocative way?
  • That the father doesn’t seem to care that his daughter is immodest?
  • That the father allowed this photograph to be taken of him and his daughter?

What Would Jesus Think About These Shirts?

Jesus died for my space in heaven When I was on my honeymoon with my beautiful wife, we went to different shops and one of them was a T-Shirt shop.  They had a whole rack of “Christian T-Shirts”  much like the ones available at Unkle Makk’s ChristiantShirtshop.  They have expressions like the shirt you see to your right, You To be, and other take offs of popular culture.

I picked up one that played off the whole online thing (stating “Unlimited Access” and having a picture of the Bible).  My wife picked up one that said “The Original Navy”– a take off of “Old Navy” (except it would have been more clever if it had referenced Noah’s Ark rather than Jesus and the disciples in the boat.

Showing Your Stuff No Longer a Problem

Vanessa Anne Hudgens - Reuters At least, that’s what our culture is telling the younger set. At one time, not so long ago, a Miss America contestant was forced to relinquish her title because some nude photos were found of her.

Now, we live in a time where a sex tape or naughty pictures are almost expected. The latest, Vanessa Anne Hudgens (pictured right) of “High School Musical”, had photos discovered of her sans clothes. The reaction? Read the rest of this page »

Before They’re Even an Adult

Maddison Gabriel How old should a young lady be before she’s able to be the cover model for a fashion show?

Take a look at the young lady at the right and meet Maddison Gabriel. She was picked as the official ambassador of Gold Coast Fashion Week in Australia. She’s modeled a number of revealing outfits for the Queensland event.

Now, we’ve all talked before about how our society glorifies girls as sex-symbols rather than people, how it objectifies them. But, to some degree, people have to be free to choose to do right or wrong. But at what age?

What if I told you that the model on the right is 12 years old?

Fashion Week spokesman Kelly Wieler said Maddison was not too young.

“Maddy got in because she was the best contestant – the judges saw that she was fit to do the job.”

She added that the schoolgirl would not be modelling swimwear or lingerie.

Well, not this year, anyway…
