The Jesus Tree Ornaments

The Jesus Tree Ornaments Book Cover

Author Gary Kennedy has penned a Christmas story about a man who is struggling with a difficult situation and his faith.  The Jesus Tree Ornaments is a book that sees his main character working through different Bible stories while confronting the possible loss of his son.

Mixed into this story is an attempt to link it to the true Meaning of Christmas.

Personally, there’s a lot here!

On the website for the story, you can actually read three chapters from the book.  The first starts out setting the scene—the man, Thomas, reflecting on the state of his only child, and wrestling with the situation that he has found himself in.

Has anyone read this book?  It does sound interesting, if a little convoluted from the description on the main page.  I might spend some time reading the excerpts   to see if it’s right for me.

Where Are All The Men?

Country Church header

A great discussion has erupted over on Is This Modest.  It started out talking about romancing one’s husband, but mutated into a discussion about men and the church.  The question that is running around the comments section is “Has the church become so feminized that men don’t care to attend?

She is sleeping with her boyfriend, left the church because they were going to discipline her, should they follow through with the public announcement?

That is the situation a church in Florida found itself in this past week as a woman in the church first confessed to a woman in her Bible Study that she was in an immoral affair, and then (ironically) tried to stop that church from declaring what she did was a sin.

Of Gov. Sarah Palin and Dinosaurs

Gov Sarah Palin

This is supposed to shock you.  Get ready.  Brace yourselves.

Gov. Sarah Palin believes that humans and dinosaurs coexisted on an earth that’s only about 6,000 years old.

Shocking, I know, since thousands of people have visited the Creation Museum.  Check out this page on Wikipedia talking about polls on the topic of Creation and Evolution.

Knowing Who is Serving

Dirty Money 2

It’s a scarier world out there—part because that as the end of time approaches people will become more lawless and part because we hear about it.

What I mean by the latter is that, at one point we didn’t hear the news that happened all around us—we were disconnected.  Now we can find out with a few clicks all sorts of things about our neighbors.

Not Me

Bible

Yesterday was my church’s 50th anniversary, and for that anniversary our pastor invited the first pastor of the church back to offer the message of the morning.  That message was in keeping with a series that we just finished up a few weeks ago, in that it brought to focus the understanding that it’s not about us, it’s all about Him.
