What Sacrifice?
On Tuesday night, Tom Brokaw asked a question that I immediately wished I was there to answer instead of either of the candidates. No, it wasn’t the question of what I didn’t know—for that I think I would have gone into full Donald Rumsfeld mode and waxed eloquent about what we know, what we don’t know, what we know we don’t know and what we don’t know we don’t know.
No, the question that I wished I could have answered was the one from the woman that asked what the candidates, as President, would ask us to sacrifice.

Halloween For Adults
Who do you think gets more out of this holiday? Is it crazy, or what?
Every year, this holiday that celebrates the day before All Saints Day gets more commercialized. We have Halloween lights, outdoor displays and people build haunted houses—and you wonder why Christians have a problem with it.
What I find most strange is that there are adults that wear costumes to my workplace. Let’s just say that sometimes what gets worn is inappropriate.

3 Ways Toward Getting a Electable Third Party Candidate
The reality in America today is that we have a two party system. The Republicans and Democrats run the show, not because they’re the best and brightest, but because they have “electability” on their side.
So, what do you do if you don’t like either of the two nominees? What if you think we’d be better off with another option? Is that even possible?
As I said before, I’m a realist when it comes to these things. As it stands, either Sen. McCain or Sen. Obama will win this election unless something catastrophic happens.
That being the case, how do we change this?

Politics as a Reality Show
There are days where I wish that politics were a reality show. Seriously. I mean, we know all reality shows are fixed, that they edit out the good parts, and create the winner, but we still watch them because we believe we’re seeing raw humanity out of a difficult situation.
And that differs from this election cycle how?

5 Things I’d Love To See In a Presidential Debate
Tonight is yet another Election Infomercial Debate, this time on the topic of the economy. It’s a Town-Hall style debate, which means that there’ll be bleachers and questions from the audience, but not as much interaction.
As I hinted at earlier, these debates are little more than chances to see the two candidates together and watch for gaffes (and fact checking). Seeing as that’s the case, and dreaming of a better system, I’d propose that I’d love to see a debate that had one of the five features.

Greed, Envy and the Markets
Economics is not free from the effect of the curse. Capitalism and Socialism both have, at their core, both positive and negative aspects that drive them, and in debate, the proponent seeks to bolster the positive while ignoring, or downplaying, the negative.

Roughing It
Ah, the joys of camping. The food, the marshmallows, the mosquitos. There’s just nothing quite like it. This past Labor Day my family went camping, but instead of worrying about tents with kids we decided that we’d rent a cabin.
What I wasn’t quite prepared for when I got there was the number of 5th Wheels and RVs that would be there.

What Do You Want in a President?
If you were to ask anyone what they want in a President—not just the candidates that we have today, but in general—and you’re likely to get answers that match the qualities of the current candidates. But if you could press further into their thinking, and start to analyze qualities, I bet you’d find this to be true:
I want a candidate that would respond to situations like I would respond to them.
Because, when it boils down to it, I believe that we actually look for people that think and act like us. Which is why when someone connects with us, and we find them likable, we don’t have a problem seeing them in a position of power, but when we find someone that we dislike or disagree with we cannot see them leading us.
