Should Christians Care if Christmas was December 25th?

christmasfamily07.jpgThe Bible is right to consider people sheep.  We do a lot of things because we have always done them.  Whether it’s where we work, our patterns for the day or the things we get involved in, there’s a combination of enjoying the familiar and not causing ripples that keeps most people from doing anything different.

This is part of the reason that I believe we have a celebration of Jesus’ birth in the middle of winter, and why it will probably never change.

Now, you could obviously start this conversation with a discussion of whether we should be celebrating His birth at all. The New Testament is devoid of decreeing any kind of celebration of days– in fact Romans 14 goes so far as to say that regarding any day better than another is something that really isn’t all the Spiritual, but a personal preference.

There are difficult passages in the Bible– ones that, on the surface, don’t seem to square with ones we find in other places.  One of these passages is in the book of Ezra.  In Ezra 10, Ezra the priest has read the law that he found in the temple and has come across a problem– the exiles from Israel had transgressed the law of God in regards to marrying foreign women.  God wanted Israel to stay pure and only to marry other Israelites.  Some of the captives even had children with these foreign women.  What to do?

Ezra and the priests decide that all those who had married foreign wives must put them away, or divorce them.  If they had children, they should be put away as well.  This would be an arduous task, and they expected it to take some time to be pure again.

christmas-wrapping-4.jpgHow do you make Christmas special? Two years back we were teasing the kids that we didn’t get them anything for Christmas.  That Christmas Eve we decided to hide the presents around the house and have them take turns finding them. The kids liked it so much that we did it again last year.

The point is to do something that’s unique to your family or something that you can share in.  So what are some of your traditions?

Here are some other ideas: How To Make Christmas Special for Your Kids

Baby UltrasoundExpectant mothers may soon be able to view their unborn baby in virtual reality (VR), after the announcement of ground-breaking new scanning technology.

Scientists in Brazil have merged ultrasound images with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to build a 3D model of a baby in the womb, which can be brought to life by using a virtual reality headset.

Research has found that over half of “abortion-minded” women end up keeping their babies after seeing a scan.
