Are Trump and Cruz Attempting To Dominate the Media?

January 18th, 2016 Viewed 1235 times

I found Gina Loudon’s article Trump and Cruz punked mainstream media interesting.  She posits that up until this time, Cruz and Trump had a truce, and now that they’re the front runners, they’re attacking each other in ways that aren’t really landing knock out blows for the purpose of dominating the media and not giving and establishment candidates air to voice their platforms and differences.

Whatever the strategy, it looks like it’s effective.

Supreme Court To Potentially Rule on Religious Neutrality

The church involved in the case was denied access to a state program in Missouri that provides playground surface rubber made from old tires.  The refusal was based on a state constitutional provision barring any public funds going to religious groups.   The new case has the potential for a major interpretation of what neutrality involving religion means for public benefits.

Quoted from The Supreme Court took a case about shredded tire playground mulch and religion.

Saved By, From and For God

If you are a Christian you are saved from God (from his just wrath), you are saved by God (by his sacrifice) and you are saved for God (for his delight and praise). It is healthy to meditate and rejoice in this reality. Let the gospel of God’s abounding grace sprout humility amid the weeds of selfishness. And may God’s aim of glorifying himself become our chief aim. Indeed there is no greater priority than this!

How Our Reactions Define Us

January 18th, 2016 Viewed 1059 times, 1 so far today

We are known by our reactions to events as they happen to us, and this is no more clearly seen than in our lives with our children.  From a very young age, children seek the boundaries and they push our buttons, looking for a reaction.  Probably because of how much they copy our problems, they are easily able to find them!

It’s those reactions, how we deal under pressure, that define who we are and display the character inside. I don’t know how many times I’ve encouraged my children that, while they cannot control what happens around them they can control their reaction to it.  This is a powerful truth, which Lori Alexander brings out in a post focused to wives about their reactions to their husband, but it really applies to all of us.

We live in a time and a society that is very self-centered and that wants us to be in a constant state of offense to others.  We need to break free of this and learn to control our reactions, such that we react in ways that bring glory to God and show our maturity.
