Is Yours A Traditional Family?

Lori Alexander shares that the traditional family is becoming an anomaly:

Day 73- Kerns family self portrait {about me} by Loren KernsCurrently, 54 percent of kids in this country don’t live in a home with two heterosexual parents in their first marriage, according to a recent Pew Research report…It’s important to keep in mind that what many define as ‘traditional’ is based on a 1950s-style family,’ Gretchen Livingston, Senior Researcher at Pew and author of the study, told HuffPost in an email. "But in many ways, the 1950s and early 1960s were an anomaly, especially in terms of the fact that people were marrying quite young and also having relatively large families."  For perspective, 73 percent of American kids lived in a "traditional" family home in 1960, while only 9 percent lived with an unmarried parent. {source}

  1. 54%! Wow. We take a lot for granted. Thankful to have been raised in a home with a mom and a dad in their first and only marriage, and who just celebrated 58 years together! My hubby and I are also first-and-onlies and will be celebrating 22 years this month. Wonderful years, but I feel like we are just now really appreciating the true lasting love and seeing the Christian growth together that makes it better than ever!
