What it Means to Be Submissive to Him

April 14th, 2015 Viewed 1520 times

On October 22, 1971, while sitting in a car looking over the sea at a place called “Manly” in Brisbane, Australia, I asked Mally to marry me. (Can you imagine getting engaged at “Manly”?!) At the moment she said those beautiful words “I will!” neither of us had any idea of where the Lord would lead us. Many years later I realized how God had been preparing each of us for the special ministry we were to be called into, for 15 years later, in 1986, Mally and I made an important decision that would change our lives dramatically.

So begins the powerful story written by Ken and Steve Ham talking about Ken’s move from Australia to an entirely different culture and how that move echoes Ruth in the Bible and how that plays out in family life in A Girl Named Ruth.

How Did We Get the Bible in English?

April 14th, 2015 Viewed 1400 times

The story of the Bible is the story of God communicating to mankind the knowledge of Himself and His grace and mercy. This process of communication from God to man is called revelation. Revelation is simply God revealing Himself to mankind. Because of man’s sin, he is unable to grasp spiritual realities. However, the understanding of spiritual truths is absolutely necessary if man is to know God personally, experience the forgiveness of sins, and have the hope of eternal life. These are the ultimate issues of life, and man must have the means to know the answers to them. – How Did We Get the Bible in English?

Uniquely Positioned

At the close of chapter 1, as almost a postscript, Nehemiah tells us his position, and almost foreshadows what he is about to do:

Now I was cupbearer to the king. – Nehemiah 1:11b

And here we see part of the reason behind Nehemiah’s prayers—now that he knows the plight of Jerusalem, and he is in a position to do something about it.

Pres. Obama Seems To Use Prayer Breakfasts to Malign Christians

From NewsMax:

“On Easter, I do reflect on the fact that as a Christian, I am supposed to love,” Obama told the group, gathered at the Washington Hilton hotel, turning from his scripted speech.

“And I have to say that sometimes when I listen to less-than-loving expressions by Christians, I get concerned,” he said as the murmur in the crowd turned audible, Mediate said.
“But that’s a topic for another day… I was about to veer off. I’m pulling it back,” the president quickly added.

ABC News described his jibe as a “mild poke.”

The Daily Caller, however, described them as words that “malign Christians.”

Talking Points Memo noted it was not the first time that the president offered eye-raising remarks at a prayer service. It noted that: “Obama faced a barrage of criticism from the right earlier this year for his comments about Christianity at the National Prayer Breakfast. Critics berated him for stating that Christians shouldn’t get on their ‘high horse’ about religious barbarism, given the Crusades and Christian backing for slavery and Jim Crow laws.”

101 Ways To Show Love To Your Wife

April 10th, 2015 Viewed 1432 times

It is harder, I believe, to pin down exactly what you can do to love a wife simply because love takes so many different forms and is very different per individual.  Respect is something that there is general agreement between men, with some minor discrepancies here and there, but showing love can certainly differ.  So, while I humbly submit this list, I do so with the disclaimer that “your mileage may vary,” meaning it will be different depending on the woman.  There are no guarantees and batteries are never included.

Will ObamaCare Ever Be Overturned?

April 9th, 2015 Viewed 1644 times

I have no crystal ball, and though many out there have predicted that at one time or another ObamaCare might suffer a fatal blow for one reason or another, the fact is that it is still, by this writing, the law of the land.  There are features of this law that are not going away.  However, that doesn’t mean that there are serious issues with the law– issues that many believe should sink the law.

Raise Taxes or Increase Participation?

April 9th, 2015 Viewed 1077 times

It’s easy to ask someone else to pay the debt, hard for us to pay it ourselves.  If increasing taxes is not the answer to our debt problem, what is?
