In this age of buying things online, I’m not sure why anyone would purchase glasses at the optometrist, besides trying to eat up a Flex Spending Account!
I mean, you can get the same quality lenses and eyeglasses online without the hassle—and if you’re worried about trying them on, you can test them at the optometrist and then go home and order!
Zenni Optical is a great solution to the expensive price of glasses and it blows the lid off of the price inflation that your optometrist charges. I mean, if you know that you can get things that much cheaper online, why wouldn’t you?
But perhaps you haven’t checked them out? Maybe you haven’t heard how Clark Howard has endorsed them? Perhaps you don’t think you have the time?
Then tuck this post away as a way to save money the next time you need to purchase glasses. Take a look through Zenni Optical’s site and play around with the different options to see what would work for you. You’ll find all the options you’ve come to expect from your optometrist, and loads of choices of things you can add—whether it’s tint, a different style, or protection on the lenses.
Once you see how affordable good, durable glasses can be, I doubt you’ll ever go back to the old way you purchased them.
Here’s a few reasons not to buy online:
1. Customer service.
2. Although it’s certain that many people never have problems buying online, many do. Guess where those folks end up? Asking a local optician or optometrist to help them fix or adjust glasses purchased elsewhere.
3. Newer technology provides an ever changing list of lens options that requires professionals to keep up with continuing education…the average patient is surely not doing the same before making decisions.
4. Vision insurance
5. Supporting the local community by visiting private practices.
Having supplied a few basic reasons, I am certainly willing to admit that there are people who may either get lucky or have simple prescriptions and not have problems. There are few who have educated themselves to the point of getting by with buying online. There are some that are willing to settle for less or may just not be able to appreciate the difference. And there are many who do not care about supporting the local community. There are many reasons, including cost to buy online. I just wanted to list a few reasons for not.
