I have been a computer geek all of my life. My dad has been a software engineer since back when they took people with math degrees and they called them computer programmers.
When I was a kid and had one of those memory books for every grade where you have to put in what you’d like to be when you grew up, I put Computer Programmer for a majority of them (and for the ones I didn’t, I made up something so it didn’t look like I had only one thing I wanted to be!)
I was online before the Internet—mostly on BBS’s—and I have a blog back before they had software to run one. In fact, I thought it was just a site where I listed links to people I was reading with my comments!
The internet is a great thing for people like me that like computers—and more are joining our ranks as social media and blogging make it so that anyone with a connection can reach out to the world around them.
That’s why there are so many websites online that cater to us geeks. There are places that give you links to Buy Gadgets, or if you’re looking to travel, you can find Expedia coupon codes so that you can save some money. There are even Sierra Trading Post Coupons you can use to buy clothing!
The Internet and related technologies have changed everything and made being a computer geek less strange and more popular. It makes me wonder what amazing technology our kids will have in the future!
I’m computer-obsessed. I got a Windows XP Home Edition at seven. ( It still works! ) And 2 computers later ( my mom eventually took over my desktop XD ), I was gifted very generously ( by my parents ) with a Windows 7 Inspiron laptop a couple of months ago.
I like hacking ( my own computer ) and my seven year old brother is obsessed with video gaming/computer stuff too. We’re all homeschooled so we have way more time to play around and learn about it. I want both of us to learn how to program and write games, lol. It isn’t part of our offical homeschool curriculum but Mom says anytime we’re learning that it’s school.
Sorry about that exceptionally long comment!
