What would you think if I told you that Clark Howard, a money expert many of you have heard on the radio and television, suggested that you save money on eyeglasses and that you specifically that you can save money on discount eyeglasses?
That’s right, the consumer advocate that tells you how to save money and live frugally in multiple different ways thinks that you need to save money on everything—getting your best bang for the buck on even your eyewear.
Now, I know that most people simply go to the optometrist, get a prescription and then head on over to the other side of the office to pick up frames and then realize that they are going to pay an arm and a leg to get the frames or glasses that they want. Unless you have an FSA1 that you need to get rid of, this is definitely not your smartest move.
You need to take some time and find the best price on your glasses, and perhaps that means that you can buy more than one pair—so you never have to worry about leaving your only pair at home when you go to work!
So, take it from none other than Clark Howard, check out discount eyeglasses before you buy. Your wallet will be glad that you did.

I really, really like Zenni Optical. We have three of us in glasses these days, and our boys will likely need them too, when they are a few years older. The “cheap” eyeglass shop wanted to charge me $300 for one pair, and instead, I took my prescription to Zenni and spent a whole $12. It made me feel a little bit like Wonder Woman, and a super-protector of our budget. hehe.

Posted by Jenna | August 21, 2011, 4:43 pmLast time I got glasses, I went to America’s Best. They advertise 2 for $69.95 with a free eye exam. While they did have a lot of glasses in that category, I liked ones in 2 for $99.95 better so I went with that. I still feel like I saved though because at my old eye doctor, my eye exam was that much!
