The Birth Certificate Lives On

You may have thought that the latest offering from the White House on the birth certificate controversy would have put to rest the questions surrounding the location of our President’s birth.  You’d be mistaken.

The latest thing that’s come up is that the White House circulated a Certificate of Live Birth that was a forgery as truth—up until the point that it was identified as such.

When the White House posted online an image of President Obama’s purported long-form birth certificate, it also linked to the previously circulated “Certification of Live Birth,” the short-form version that had been presented as the only birth documentation available.

However, the short-form certificate to which the White House linked April 27 was a forgery, claims research expert Ron Polland, Ph.D., who says he made the image himself.

“I made the birth certificate image that was given to the media at the White House press conference held on April 27, 2011,” Polland told WND.

‘I created Obama’s certification of birth’

So what we have here is a fake circulated as the real thing.  A big deal?  Not really.

Snopes.com had circulated this file—and they’re usually pretty good at capturing forgeries—as the real thing until it was uncovered that it was not.  They then switched to the officially released document.  Why is it, not a big deal then?  Because one could usually trust Snopes, whoever put the file on the website probably grabbed it from Snopes and Snopes just happened to not put as much diligence into finding the “correct” one online.

That is just sloppy work.

This does not really promote or deflate the ongoing question (in some minds) of whether or not Pres. Obama was born in the U.S. or is a natural-born citizen.  It does say that people are really sloppy when it comes to something that some people take very seriously.
