Bible Baptist Church in Bonner Springs, Kansas, has an idea that I think my church should try—it’s a free garage sale:

Members of the Bible Baptist Church of Bonner Springs, 426 Emerson Ave., began the program they call “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” last year. They collected donations over several months and then opened their doors to anyone who needed the items, no questions asked, in a free garage sale of sorts. Pastor Ed Fuller says as they gear up to have the event again this year from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 6, they hope to spread the word to both gather more donations and help many more.  [Church ministers through free garage sales]

Have You Ever Tried to Be a Table?

NbZoRThis week is my church’s Vacation Bible School week—and we’re most of the way through it.  We’re doing the Answers In Genesis Gold Rush VBS and I’ve liked how the material has been presented.  Tonight’s the Gospel message.

In any case, I came upon this image recently, and it reminded me of some of the games that I’ve seen this week.

Have you ever tried to be a table—you and four of your friends?

Is it as easy as these images?  I’ll have to give it a try.

Just use the four chairs to start out, and then pull them out afterward.  It should work, right?

Let me know if you try it!

Prayer is the language

Pastor Joe Nelms decided that, rather than give an actual prayer, he’d pull lines right out of the irreverent prayer from the movie Talladega Nights to inject some humor into what’s normally a cookie cutter prayer.

Now, while I can tolerate the “smokin’ hot wife” and perhaps the racing cars types, it’s how he closed the prayer that makes me believe he crossed the line.

English: The United States’ debt ceiling was raised to one trillion dollars for the first time in history on September 30, 1981. Since then, it has been raised an additional $13.2 trillion. This chart tracks the ceiling as of the end of each calendar year. Years are color coded by congressional control and presidential terms highlighted. You know what really gets me going—the political theater that’s going on in Washington right now.  For weeks I’ve been mulling over this thing, and I’ve come to a few conclusions.

Could God Be Calling Multiple Candidates?

Two Presidential candidates have come out to say that God has called them to run for the White House in 2012—Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Michele Bachmann.  Doesn’t this present a problem?

Now, let’s get the literal explanation out of the way immediately—it’s possible to be called to do something (run for office) while not being called to the office.  So there is a technical difference there.  We can’t question why God would ask you to run and not win, so what possible advantage could there be in stating this call?
