Getting Tired of Winding that Watch?

watch

“No one wears watches anymore,” My dad said.  “They all have cell phones.”

Except, that’s not quite true.  The fact is, I’ve seen many that still wear their watch—even though they may check the time on their phone from time to time.

Personally, I have two watches—one a binary watch and the other a Timex.  I’ve had really good experiences with Timex, and although it’s on the cheap end, I’ve had one that lasted over ten years before finally having to be replaced.

However, if you find that you want a more expensive watch, you’ll probably going to want to find a watch winder.  What’s that, you ask?

A watch winder is something that is used to help keep automatic watches exercised.  You see, watch winders, like the orbita watch winder, serve to exercise the mechanism of your watch by winding it just like it would be wound by a wrist.  This keeps the mechanisms in good working order.

I mean, who wants a battery anyway, right?

These watch winders come with a great watch case and they allow you to put your watch in it and have it wound—and never over wounds.  Best of all, for these kinds of watches you never have to worry about winding the watch after it’s run out, and then resetting the time—which is one of the reasons I’ve always owned battery operated watches.  Even that can be a pain when the battery runs out.

So, if you want always have the correct time and avoid battery watches, this is just the thing for you!

I think now-a-days, watches are more of a status symbol- probably because (like your dad says) everybody has a cellphone, so for actual timekeeping purposes, having a watch is somewhat superfluous (I still remember the little digital casio I wore in grade school that I thought was SO COOL at the time). Also, watches are one of the few pieces of “jewelry” that seem to be socially acceptable for men as well as women.

As far as the winder goes- if you’re going to go to the expense of buying a high-end watch, It definitely makes sense to take good care of it (unlike my grade school casio, which I believe is now somewhere at the bottom of a lake…)
