The other night my family and I were out at night waiting to watch a fireworks display in my old hometown. One of the things that happens when we’re out at night is that, invariably, one of my children will remember that I have a Timex Indiglo watch, and if I’m not careful, arm hair will suffer the fate of being pulled once again.
For me, I’ve worn an Indiglo watch since 1994—when I received my first one from my late paternal Grandmother for Christmas. It was the watch that I used all through college, and lasted me up until just about a year ago. It may not have been a jacques lemans watch, but it was special to me just the same.
What do you use to keep time? I know that some people now use a cell phone much like an overgrown pocket watch, and don’t feel the need to wear one on their wrist.
I’ve always found that it takes a whole lot longer to dig through my pocket for a cell phone I may or may not have on me than it does to turn my wrist.
Now, when my brother picked up a binary watch—where you had to push it and then mathematically add up the time—there’s where I figure that I actually had to work and a cell phone would be faster. Then again, my math skills also were exercised and I was getting pretty good at adding multiples of 2 up to 32—so maybe that’s a benefit.
Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind? If not, why not?
