“Where are you going to college?”
This is one of the most difficult questions that face a senior in high school. It’s no wonder that many start in their Junior year, visiting different colleges, trying to figure out their major and where they think the campus lifestyle will best suit them.
I went to Bob Jones University, but before deciding on that school I visited various other christian colleges to see what they had to offer.
There are many different options out there, many more than I was a teen, and so it’s nice to have websites that show you the different christian colleges and universities out there. The site that I linked to has a nice interface, though it seems to be heavily fixated on Liberty University1
One of the promising things at the site is the Quick Degree Finder, where you can search for a degree, the level of the degree and whether or not it is online. However, when I looked up “Computer, Bachelor’s Degree, Online and Campus” I was sent to an online application to Liberty. That’s a little misleading.
There is a way to get the site to show you a list of schools—by clicking on the Christian Colleges Link you can see a table showing Religious affiliation, how many schools are in that category and then the biggest school in the category (which is definitely interesting). BJU makes a showing here under “Other Protestant.”
But it still seems that Liberty, Benedictine and a handful of others are sponsoring this site or something, because the ads for them are omnipresent.
I do like the blog section—there’s some great blog posts there (mostly list posts) that seem to have some great content.
That being said, I was hoping for a little bit more of a list of all sorts of schools by major or religious affiliation and then some type of ratings and/or suggestions.
This site is a good first step, and has definite promise. I would recommend that you check it out as you begin your college search, just don’t expect anything too detailed—yet.
- Full Disclosure: All of my siblings attended Liberty—I choose not to for personal reasons. [↩]
