What Do You Do If You Come Up Short?

Budget Cuts

What are you wasting your money on?

That really is the biggest question that you have to answer when it comes to saving money and creating a budget.  You see, we all waste money—we impulse buy things that we see, we buy things at full price instead of waiting for a sale, and we buy things that we could make cheaper than pay for them.

Congress Really Doesn’t Care If It’s Constitutional

When a person is brought into an office in the Federal Government– from the President down to the Senators and Congressmen– they are administered an oath of office that includes upholding and defending the Constitution.  And it seems that’s the last time that they actually think about it.

After that oath, everything becomes all about what they can do– the power that they have achieved through their office.  It becomes about “what I wanted to do” and “what I tried to do” more than doing what’s best for the country.

President Obama’s Teleprompter Malfunctions

Not as big a deal as it was a few months ago, but here’s a funny take on President Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter.  I especially find funny the part where he “loads the teleprompter to lecture his speech writers” and “the caps key got stuck so he ended up shouting the whole speech.”

Abortion: Should the Government Pay?

The 1976 Hyde Amendment was passed to prevent people that had moral problems with abortion from having to have their tax dollars fund abortion.  This was part of the natural reaction of the Pro-Life side to the fact that the United States Supreme Court “found” the right to have an abortion hidden between the lines of the Constitution.

In the Affordable Health Care for America Act passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, the Stupak-Pitts amendment disallows any federal funds being spent on abortion.  So what’s the Pro-Choice side so up in arms about?

Is It Wrong For Women to Wear Pants?

In Paris, France, the answer would be yes.

In 1800, a Paris police chief introduced a rule banning women from dressing like men—namely by wearing pants instead of skirts and dresses.  This idea is not that foreign.  The Biblical Old Testament speaks of it being wrong for women to dress like men such that you cannot tell the difference, so 1800 France would have been under the influence of those types of ideas.

What’s so amusing is that the law is technically still in effect!

Keep It In Perspective

A Visionary Dream

Changing your location can have a great impact on how you see things—your life, the way that you’re living.  It can help focus you and it can change your outlook.

When Elizabeth Esther took a trip to Chicago recently, she found out that a trip in a taxi helped her gain perspective on her life.

Ruth: A Lesson in Poverty

Bible Study

The Bible’s teaching on poverty could be summed up with one verse and two concepts.  In Mark 14, a woman had come to anoint Jesus for burial, and the disciples were upset at the size of the gift—it was very expensive perfume.  Posturing, the disciples suggested that the money could be sold for much money that would be useful in ministering to the poor.  Jesus’ comment, in verse 7, is that doing good to the poor is a good thing, but that you will always have the poor with you.

Governing By Fear

Every party does it.  Once a party gets control of a branch of government– let alone every branch of government– the party that just got into power is overwhelming concerned about keeping that power.  In some ways this is good.  It allows for moderate government to prevail, and usually it’s the case that the country is split, not totally supporting one view or the other.

However, it also produces a clouding of policy and opinion.

A Walk in the Park

We’re going to resurrect Pro-Life Fridays and start looking again at life in the womb by answering some more Pro-Choice questions.

This is an exciting time for the Pro-Life movement, for in the middle of a terrible health care bill came a surprise in the further limiting of Federal Funding when it comes abortions.

So, this should be an interesting topic as the question of life comes back to the foreground.
