Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

American Flag

It was a policy put into place by President Bill Clinton in an entirely different climate for the homosexual movement.  In order to both cater to these supports but still ally the fears and concerns of the armed forces, a deal was struck that officers would not be asked their orientation and were instructed not to tell their orientation, or else they would be removed from service.

Many have declared their orientation and have been sent out of the armed forces afterwards—some of them decrying this move as injustice.

My Beliefs

Personally, I believe that this is a flawed approach—but I’m also against women in combat.  The last thing that I think a military needs to be concerned about when facing the enemy is their sexual drive.  I believe that there’s a lot of mental pressure that comes with fighting wars, and it’s hard to keep disciplined in sexual areas when you’re about the business of killing people and breaking things.

Too many armed conflicts have been recorded in history where no only were people killed and property destroyed, but women raped.  And we’re not immune from this effect.

I don’t believe that you can support a homosexual force simply because it would necessitate yet another series of provisions for these people.  Some would have a problem bunking with or fighting with someone that could be attracted to them—some of them would have a moral problem with their behavior, and it would be weird to make the accommodations necessary to provide them with the privacy, etc. that they would need.

However…

Where’s the leadership here by President Obama?  Seriously… if he believes what he says about this issue, that he wants to repeal the policy, why is he saying that the law is the only way?  He’s the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

It seems to me that he wants the cover the legislature would provide—one way or the other—instead of taking a stand on what he considers a moral issue.  If the Congress leaves it in place, he can put the blame on them.  If they act, he can take the credit.

But this points to an underlying character flaw in him—he is a politician at heart.  He’s seeking his best play more than seeking to do what he believes is right—or at least what he says he believes is right.

Just remember, this man can push forward a bill to spend twice as much money as the government takes in, but can’t do anything for don’t ask, don’t tell.  How much can we believe what he says?

  1. This is a very difficult issue indeed. One the one hand, I would never want to tell someone they could not serve their country simply because they are gay. But you bring up a very good point. What about the men and women who aren’t comfortable with sleeping, changing, showering, etc. with a homosexual? I would not want to do those things with a man in the room for the obvious possible attraction reasons, and I see it no different if there was a gay woman in the room. So who’s rights should prevail?

  2. I believe it would be in the interest of our government to pull women from combat and NOT allow gays into the armed forces. It would be a wretched and lethal distraction.

However, with the way the world is turning and embracing this deviant lifestyle, nothing would surprise on what Obama or his liberal administration will do.

  3. It is the age old cry of minorities…give us equality. However, their view of equality is to be treated better than everyone else. The homosexuals want to be able to openly display their “gayness” while enlisted in the military. They want the world to know their sexual orientation. Why? Because they want to throw it in the faces of the heterosexuals.

An earlier comment mentioned that some heterosexual people may be uncomfortable bunking, changing etc with a homosexual person. Why do you think that is? It is uncomfortable because being gay is NOT natural. It is a chosen lifestyle, a lifestyle that is a stench in the nostrils of a holy God. Romans 1:26-27 “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is aginst nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working that which is unseenly, and receiving in the themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”
Being homosexual is not the way that God made us to be. Homosexuals have chosen that lifestyle because of sin that has corrupted their hearts and lives. So, for the heterosexual it is only reasonable to assume that they would not want to put themselves in the different positions that members of the military find themselves in.

There is enough going on in the lives of these men and women, they certainly don’t need to be wondering if the pervert next door is checking them out. Also, let me add that it is not always that hard to tell who is gay. So to open the door and allow these people to broadcast it, would do nothing but hurt the military.
