Bringing In The Big Rigs

EarthMover

There comes a point where it becomes necessary to bring in the big guns—to take big chances and to do the big job that no one else seems to want to do.

That’s about how I feel about the current state of politics in our nation.  We have a bunch of people up in Washington—some of which know what needs to be done, and some that are more concerned about keeping their power than getting it done.

The problem is, we’ve pushed off the big problems way too long, and people have billed themselves as people that can solve the big problems, but they don’t go anywhere near them.

Just like cable choppers, Earth movers and other big equipment, these political representatives walk around thinking that they’re something because they were voted into office.  They think that their titles, their committee positions, and their staff make them something.

The truth is, that they are there to do a job—they are truly servants of ours.  It was someone much better than them that said that he who wants to be a leader should be a servant.  Today we pay lip-service to this ideal, while trampling all over people’s rights and pretending we’re better than them.

When it comes to equipment, we will bring in the big equipment, the costly equipment, and it’s awe inspiring to watch them work.  The come to do a specific job, and they do it well and on a large scale.  They’re not afraid to do the job, because that’s what they’re there to do.  They’re designed to fight the tough problem.

You don’t catch a big piece of equipment avoiding their job, but these representatives always duck the tough questions—which is part of the reason we’re here.  There are things that people don’t want to hear, programs they don’t want to touch, and people that can’t be offended.

Time for a new set of “equipment”, don’t you think?

The thing is, when selecting equipment, you don’t compromise – because it won’t work. You can’t make coffee in a toaster. But when it comes to human relations, we tend to compromise, and accept that a toaster will soon day learn how to make coffee.

Politicians should be chosen for their job just like any other job – they should qualify on merit and experience.
