In Case of An Accident

driver

Have you ever been in an automobile accident?  I have actually been in three.

The first one was on a wet slippery road.  My dad was stopped at a stop light and a car came right up and hit us from behind.

Same thing happened on a busy road while I was carpooling to work (stopped in the left lane waiting for someone in front of us to take a turn and was rear-ended.

My last accident was when I was hit broadside trying to go left crossing two lanes of traffic.  (I’m not counting the time I pulled out of my driveway and dinged the car on the other side of the street!)

What do you do when you’re in an accident?

  • Get frustrated
  • Reflexively blame the other driver
  • Contact help
  • Flee the scene!
  • Check to see if the other person is alright

Fortunately, automobile insurance is great for helping during these trying times.  It helps to cover your trip to the hospital, to cover the repair/replacement of your vehicle, and (depending on your coverage) helps to cover the other vehicle as well.

What kind of insurance do you have or need?  Do you need Van Insurance, or is regular automobile insurance good enough?

You should definitely be covered—it’s there for your benefit!

I’ve been in a few myself. Nothing major though. Mostly bad parking decisions, smashed tail lights and stuff like that. And out of that list of things to do after an accident, the first two are absolutely going to happen, the third and last one you should be doing, and the fourth one definitely not.

Although one or two times I have felt like knocking the other guy’s lights out after making sure he’s alright…
