It’s a Great Time to be Pregnant

Pregnant Woman

Well, any time is really a great time to be pregnant, but winter especially so.  Why?  Because the baby helps to keep you warm!

But seriously, we live in a great time for mom’s and babies in the sense that there are many things out there to help a mom through a pregnancy.  Whereas before, dad couldn’t even be in the delivery room, now dad is supposed to be there at every step.

And when it comes to clothing, having a baby bump is an “in-thing” with many companies vying to help you look the part of the glowing mom.

Most retailers are now targeting women with child, some opening stores and websites specifically to cater to this period of time in a woman’s life.  They carry everything from clothing to new parents gifts!  This particular one has free shipping for the holidays using the checkout code”BLOG1″.

That’s one of the things that dads are just now getting into.  I got at least a couple of books as we had our first two children, and I know that my wife got things for her as well as for our baby.

There are so many neat things out there too… From Books and Journals to gift certificates there are DVDs to watch, and slings and Diaper bags to get.  It’s crazy the things that people will get and give at this neat time of year.

And why not celebrate?  Bringing a new life into the world is a magical time, and beautiful beginning, and a journey the parents will never forget.

I cannot remember a happier time in my life, granted I was in pain most of the time (fibroids) but would not take back one minute.

God blessed me with two beautiful miracles and I love them more than than I can ever express.

I also am a bit jealous of how nice the maternit clothes have gotten. I cringe at the clothes I used to wear, they didn’t make cute clothes back when I was pregnant. Bummer…now it is too late.

Yep, it sure is a good time to be pregnant! ;) (I’m pregnant, for those of you who don’t know.) And Leticia’s right – it’s a painful thing, but it’s so completely worth it. The fact that God’s put this foreign little person inside of me just blows my mind.

…provided, of course, you’re expecting your first, second, or maybe third….beyond that people poke their noses and criticize as if they were never taught to mind their own business! (I’m not even pg right now and we only have one, but I’ve heard enough nasty things said to families who have the audacity to think children are really a blessing, even more than two!)

Katie, you’re so right. My own husband only wants two because “We don’t live on a farm. Why do we need so many children?” I want five. And I’d be happy to foster parent on top of that.

We are getting closer to trying out this whole parenthood thing. My wife incessantly makes me aware that she hates being cold. I think you just gave us the solution! ;)

Yeah, pregnancy is a great time to buy all the great and wonderful products companies are offering. It’s so great that we can go out and spend our hard earned money on stuff like that. We are so lucky to live in a nation where so many useful products are available in great abundance for us to buy.

Oh, and with the recent deflation, we can all afford to buy more of the wonderful products being offered today, from color-coordinated outfits with passifiers to disposable diapers, formula, designer bottles, thousands of books to tell us how to be good parents, not to mention the Bible…

Ohh.. and don’t worry because if you both need to work to pay for all that, there’s wonderful daycare facilities where your children can watch some of the wonderful, great new children’s programs, and learn to make friends with EVERYONE, fellow Christians, or muslims, atheists, jews, hindus, sikhs, taosists… we’re all people afterall… and of course we’re all customers too.

I apologize for the tone of this email… but I’m still sending it in hopes that it will give pause to some people.

Wow, Arthur. No one was advocating overspending, commercializing pregnancy, or anything of the like. We were celebrating this season of life. It’s tough being a parent/expectant parent and if a pacifier clip is going to keep pacifiers from being lost and needing to be replaced, then I see no problem in buying one. If parents want to glean wisdom from the Bible plus extra-biblical sources, then I see no problem with buying or borrowing books to help do so. Are you an advocate of cloth daipers only? I admire that. It does cut down on a lot of extra spending and physical waste. However, if a parent prefers disposable diapers, I don’t condemn that. The beauty of a capitalistic market is variety and options. If you don’t want to spend your money on something you feel is frivolous, then you don’t have to.

I think that you can go overboard both ways. If you simply sit home and refuse to acknowledge the birth of a child in someone you love’s life then you’re just as bad as the person that goes out to spend what they cannot afford on things that will pass away.
