Shopping With The Kids
Tonight was a chance for my wife to get together with some ladies and scrapbook, and the kids and I hit the local outdoor shopping mall to do some walking around. We hit some clothing stores, Radio Shack, and the local toy shop. They loved the toy shop.
But while we were in one of the Hallmark stores I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. You see, at one point in my life and early in my married life, I really liked getting those ceramic city pieces. We’d make a big deal of displaying, and I was actually subscribed to this service that would send you a new one every three months.
So, I was really surprised to see that along with the classic scene and the “North Pole” set, they had something new. A Halloween set. So, now you can add ghosts, dead things, and scary pieces to your set. Strange, eh?
The hardest part about shopping tonight was the restraint I had to have. We need to save every penny while waiting for God to provide a job, so we were “just looking” everywhere. There was a lot of things I thought my wife would like. There were things that I felt I should shop with her to get the boys.
However, she’s not one that likes to shop in crowded stores at Christmas time. Whereas my brother and his wife have gone out before on Black Friday, and we’ve even looked into 2008 black friday deals, I don’t believe I’d ever get her out there on that day.
However, I wouldn’t mind checking out JcPenny’s Black Friday sales (once they’re posted) and see if I can get her something nice. See, my wife and oldest son have birthday’s in December. If money’s still tight, we’ll just have to reschedule their birthdays as well.
Have you seen anything interesting as you’ve begun shopping—or will you do it all online this year?

I got gift certificates from restaurant.com for my bro & sis (one lives in New Orleans and one lives in Dallas, so lots of places to choose from). I ordered the certs when I had an 80% off discount code, so I got them each a $100 worth of gift certs for $8.
As for our parents, we’re printing calendars of our little girl from Apple. $20 a piece.
I have spent about $70 on my daughter, but I’ve gotten all her gifts at Sam’s for very good deals.
Total money spent for us for Christmas for everyone: $126. Pretty good for a seminary budget.
