My favorite appellation was the Anglo-Saxon king known as Ethelred the Unready, who ruled England about half a century before William the Conqueror did his thing in 1066. It seems that Ethelred was never ready when the Danes were ready to attack England. It was probably an unfair characterization, but it stuck. Dr. Panosian would also share a few gems from "1066 and All That" [a parody on English history] when covering this period of history. The money quote about Ethelred was that he was so clueless that he was "even caught unawares by his own death."

I also like Abraham Lincoln's comment concerning his general George McClellan. Lincoln was critical of McClellan's frequent reluctance to go on the offensive in the early months of the Civil War. Lincoln sardonically said of his general: "McClellan is ALWAYS almost ready to fight," or words to that effect. Later on, when some criticized U.S. Grant's style, Lincoln succinctly said of Grant, "At least he fights!"

And then I could talk about Pepin the Short's wife, Bigfoot Bertha, but I will resist the temptation.

Well, I wouldn't mind it too much as long is it was made up by me or someone who liked me...Otherwise, ouch! They could come up with some hum-dingers.
(And I'd be "Erin the Redhead")
