Modern Day Robin Hood?

IT'S A LEAK! Barack Obama tells Ohio plumber Joe Wurzelbacher he intends to "spread the wealth around."Ever since I’ve been an adult I’ve had a moral dilemma about Robin Hood.  He’s much more of a complex character than Disney or the other portrayals would have us to believe.

Yes, the king was bad, and was taxing his people.  Yes, it was nice of Robin to help the poor.

My problem is that I believe in absolutes, and stealing is wrong.  Coupled with the fact that regardless of how corrupt the government is, I’m supposed to submit to it (as a Christian) except in cases where it demands that I go against my faith.

So, it’s with this backdrop that I read an article that compares Sen. Obama to Robin Hood, and I have much the same thoughts—only worse.

You see, where Robin Hood himself took from a corrupt king to return money to the people, Sen. Obama is going to take money from you and me, and other hard working people that have spent time to get where we are, and is going to give it, indiscriminately, to people who haven’t proven that they are the same hard workers.

In essence, he’s going to reward those that do not work hard, while punishing those that do.

Wurzelbacher said he planned to become the owner of a small plumbing business that will take in more than the $250,000 amount at which Obama plans to begin raising tax rates.

“Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” the blue-collar worker asked.

After Obama responded that it would, Wurzelbacher continued: “I’ve worked hard . . . I work 10 to 12 hours a day and I’m buying this company and I’m going to continue working that way. I’m getting taxed more and more while fulfilling the American Dream.”

“It’s not that I want to punish your success,” Obama told him. “I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success, too.

This isn’t about giving others a chance for success.  That’s not what will happen.  As we saw when welfare was introduced, rather than providing a helping hand, people mooched off the system to get as much as they could without lifting a finger.

I see a lot of the same thing going on here.

We should be encouraging people to work harder, to get better.  Not telling them that they are ok where they are and that we’ll give them a hand out so they can continue doing just that.

  1. This is precisely what’s wrong with Obama’s system.

You know, we could qualify for food stamps and government assistance if I quit my job and stayed home (and I work only 30 hrs a week for a church so you know I don’t make that much). I joked last weekend if Obama gets into office, I’m quitting and we are going to food stamps because it’s better than someone else getting my money. The truth is I was only half-joking. If they are not going to work for it, why should I?

I am slightly kidding about that (I really have no intention of quitting my job, despite O-rob-a’s plan) but what if everyone in America, all the hard workers who are going to provide the excess taxes to take care of the lazy, up and quit their jobs when Obama’s plan goes into action? The economy would come to a screeching halt. But I wouldn’t blame those people one bit for doing so. They don’t deserve to have their money stolen.
