Ah, the joys of camping. The food, the marshmallows, the mosquitos. There’s just nothing quite like it. This past Labor Day my family went camping, but instead of worrying about tents with kids we decided that we’d rent a cabin.
What I wasn’t quite prepared for when I got there was the number of 5th Wheels and RVs that would be there.
Now, I’m not an experienced camper by any means. I’ve camped more in the seven years I’ve been married1, then when I was going up. But when you see someone with television, Christmas lights, and it changes all sorts of shapes when parked you begin to wonder if they have a real home, or just a home on wheels. Know what I’m saying?
And in my neck of the woods it gets cold out, so there isn’t a lot of opportunity for camping as it is!
What amazes me is that people can drive these things and get them into and out of the small, tight spots they have for camping. I mean apart from the cost of buying the thing, gasoline, and RV Insurance, I’m sure they must be serious about camping—or taking their home with them.
Still, I do know of some evangelists and missionaries that have an RV for their only home, and it works for them. I just don’t know if I could ever see myself in one of them.
How about you? Do you RV? Camp? Tent all the way?

My in-laws have some land about 2-1/2 hours away by a very large lake. And the whole thing is to leave civilization at home. Granted we use a radio to keep track of the weather because the weather here can change pretty fast, not to mention we live in tornado alley.
I love the peace and quiet, no tv, no phones, just the wonderful noise of crickets, etc.

Posted by Leticia | October 6, 2008, 4:10 pmI don’t camp at all. I’m too sensitive to the insects.
Thankfully my hubby is much happier staying inside and playing with electronics than roughing, so it works out good for us.
