By now you know that I’m totally in favor of having your own domain. You know that there are multiple reasons that you should get off of blogger, blogspot or wordpress.com and get on your own domain.
But in case you haven’t:
- Own your own content—you will have your own content on your own site. It will not belong to someone else. You have total control.
- Your best chance to make money—Having your own domain, your own brand, is one of the best things you can do if you’re looking to make some money with your hobby.
- The most flexibility—You can have your own theme. You can have your own plugins. You don’t pay anything extra.
So, now that I’ve convinced you that you need to get off of your hosted service, how do you go about finding someone to host your blog? How do you find and compare web hosting?
Well, there are many sites out there that will help you find and compare sites. Make sure that you consult friends that have hosted blogs. Make sure that you find out about customer support. And make sure you’re ready to take your hobby to the next level.
OK first spiritual conviction and now internet conviction? You’re on a roll!

I still have “Lies Wives Believe” if you’re interested in writing for it.

Posted by ChristianPF | August 27, 2008, 12:48 pm@ChristianPF: A college friend and I actually work on websites for churches using a CMS like DotNetNuke or WordPress. So, right now, my “vast” blog network exists on those servers, though I’ve looked into a VPS to run something like WordPress MU (the same technology WordPress.com uses).
My grand and glorious master plan? I picked up FoundOnes.net/FoundOnes.com and I was going to create a network of Christians in different fields. Unfortunately, time does not seem to want to cooperate.
