Putting It In Your Eye

Contact lens and eye 2

Personally, I don’t know how you do it.  How do you place that piece of plastic on your eye every day to see?  How do you not get afraid that you’ll touch or scratch your eye?  How do you not panic when it goes above or underneath and you think you lost it?

It just baffles me.

Then again, it might be because I have never worn contacts, only need glasses for distance when driving at night (not by law), and had an experience with gasoline in my eyes as a kid—yeah, that might make me not want to even try contacts!

What I do think is neat about them, however, is how they preserve the original face.  It’s not like they frame the face, or change how you naturally look—they show the real you.  That I do find appealing.

And now there are contacts that actually keep your eyes moist, like the acuvue oasys.  See, before I would think that contacts would be like wearing plastic on your body all day—yuck.  I had a roommate in college that wore his contacts all the time, and I always wondered how he could possibly do it.

Now that there are contacts that actually let your eye breathe more, I can understand the choice—not sure if you’d catch me wearing them.  They are easier to find than glasses, and you can order them online, and they do preserve your natural looks, though.

If you wear contacts, or know someone who does, check out different places and different types.  You may be surprised at what new technology there is out there for you now.

Oh, contacts aren’t so bad really. You’d be surprised how quickly you get used to them if they fit properly. That’s not to say you won’t have a minor problem or mishap now and then. You just learn from it and hopefully don’t lose them (never happened to me) or tear them (I did that to one.)

I had to stop wearing contacts when my allergy troubles got out of hand. My eyes get too dry and itchy and the eye doctor basically said I’d need to give them up. Oh well. Besides, I kind of like my cool prescription sunglasses.

@Christine @ Serenity How?: My wife’s eyes are now dry all the time, so she cannot wear them. She’s trying some drug to get her natural tears back up, but I’m not sure it’s working.
