So, You Want to Build a Website?
The truth of the matter is, if you’re a business or an individual and you want to do business in the world today you have to have a website. One of my side jobs is helping churches get on the web, because more of my generation are actually going online to find out more about a congregation before even stepping foot inside its doors.
And what can be done on the web is limitless. From this blog—where I can type my thoughts from the comfort of my home and you can come, read, interact just like we were neighbors—to sites where you can buy materials, everything is being done on the web.
Since interacting with the Internet is mostly a visual experience, it’s import that you have a good design. Whether you’re talented enough to do it yourself, you can find a free template to change, or you get a web site designer to do it for you, you need it to look professional.
That’s why you need to do your homework when it comes to choosing a design and how your design will effect your overall goal.
- What is the basic theme of your site?
- How will the content be laid out?
- Will you be incorporating ads? How many and where?
- What kinds of user tools will be available?
- How will it be updated?
- Where will it be hosted?
All of these questions have to be answered, and there are many services out there willing to help you find them.
One of them is Network Solutions—which will either help you do the design yourself, of will have a professional Web designer on hand to do one for you. Of course the latter will be more expensive wherever you go, but if you’re serious about being on the web you’ll probably want to invest in an original design rather than a template.
Whichever way you decide to go, make sure that you do your homework and find a good company to work with. Check the reliability and the customer feedback, and make sure you’re satisfied with the work. Good communication will go a long way to getting a site that will reflect the business that you do to the world around you!
