Managing Time

clock3

There are only so many hours in the day.  Trying to have a full time job, blog, and raise a family means that I have to make efficient use of that time.  So, I try to write for the blog when the kids aren’t awake, pay attention to work items when I’m at work, and give my family the time they deserve.

When it comes to side projects—whether it’s developing my ad manager, plugins, or setting up sites, it’s important that I keep track of time so that I know how much to bill, how much time a project took, and whether or not something justifies the extra time.

In my professional life, keeping track of projects is done through an online Timesheet—but that hasn’t always been the case!  Up until this year, I was still filling out a long notecard type piece of paper that indicated the projects I was on and how much time of my day was spent toward each project.

They finally upgraded to an electric time system like that provided by Atlantic Global’s timesheet.  This system lets you enter time, track it against different projects and then use it for expense costing and billing.

Personally, I think it’s a bit much for all that I’m doing, but if you have multiple people that you’re working with, if you’re doing your job full time and wondering how to keep track of it all, or if you’re using paper time cards (still!), I’d check out this program and see if you can’t streamline your operation with something that can scale.
