California, New York, and Same Sex Marriage

wedding collection 3The past few weeks has seen a flurry of activity in the area of same-sex marriage.  Specifically, the Supreme Court of California ruled that same-sex couples should have equal protection rights under the California Constitution to marry, and have instructed the state to do so starting in the middle of June.

The Bleeding Edge

firefox3 Yes, I’m one of those.  If there’s a beta program available for a piece of software that I like, I’m in it.  I was in the beta program for Office 2007 (which I really like) and I’ve downloaded betas for Firefox 3 as they’ve been coming out.

And now I’m running Firefox 3.0 Release Candidate 1.  For those of you not in the software industry, this means that they’ve gotten FireFox 3 to the point that they think that it might be good enough for the general public (meaning that the number of known issues and bugs are sufficiently low that they believe they’re ready for everyone to grab it).  And you should!

For You Math Geeks

Integrated There I was, minding my own business and surfing the web when I stumbled onto something that I couldn’t stop laughing at.  It’s true, I’m not a math geek.  Yes, I took Calculus in high school, and my statistics professor in college kept referring to me as “the only one in this room to take Calculus” and I have a calculator that can plot graphs and play a Tetris like game back in 1995…  But I disliked math.  I had the music minor.

Do This in Remembrance of Me

Communion 2One of the things that Christians are charged to remember is the last meal that Christ had with His disciples:

1 Corinthians 11:23-26: For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the [same] night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  After the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me.  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Be Careful What You Aren’t Wearing

MySpace Alex Phillips’ girlfriend probably thought that she was doing something innocuous.  She probably thought that stripping down for Alex to take pictures of her was something that would either keep him interested in her or maybe he bullied her into doing it.

For whatever reason, the pictures were taken, and as is the case with these things, they found their way onto MySpace after the boy and the girl broke up.

What’s Going on Around the Network

keyboardIt’s that time again.  Time to see what’s going on around MInTheGap’s network:

This week sees the finish of the second chapter of The Disappearing Damsel in Distress over at my fiction site.  We’re getting an inside glimpse into what Detective Schofield likes to do when there’s not a case– and it looks like he likes to play Capture the Flag.

Saluting the Soldiers

Flags Header

Today we remember all those that have given their lives so that we might be free.  America owes its freedom not to Congress, the President or the ACLU, but to those that have been willing to risk all to protect it.

To the men and women who have risks their lives both home and abroad so that we might have the freedoms that we are so richly blessed with, this nation– and this blogger– offers our sincerest thanks, and we are indebted to you.

In Memory of Maria

Steven Curtis Chapman Family By now you’ve probably all heard, Maria Chapman, the 5-year-old adopted daughter of singer Steven Curtis Chapman, was stuck and killed by an SUV being driven by an older teenage brother.

Words cannot express how difficult this time will be for the family, and what they will be remembering this memorial day.
