Making the Big Step

Future Header

There are many reasons to shed that shared blogspot.com or wordpress.com blog:

  • You are the next Pro-Blogger, and you wish that wordpress.com would let you run ads.
  • People have been looking for you at your own domain name, only to get lost on the way because you’re actually under someone else.
  • You’ve visited someone’s blog and they have some great widget that you’d like to run, only your hosting provider doesn’t allow it.
  • You believe that you’ll move someday, and you don’t want to lose all the link love that you’ve accumulated over time.

All of these are terrific reasons to get your own account, build your own brand, and forge your own destiny.  The question is, how can you find the right hosting provider that will fit your needs.  There are a lot of them out there, with many different offers and many different prices.

Thankfully, there are sites that offer help sorting out web hosting so that you can compare the different offers in one location.  Web Hosting Choice actually lists what it considers the best 10, and shows you the price, how much it costs to set up, the disk space, how much data transfer you get, when it was established, and gives you a rating.

What I really like about this site is that it has some of the big names– that gives me a good feeling about its listing.  It’s also not overrun with ads itself– that tells me they’re concerned about their product.

So, whatever tool you use, it’s time that you got off those free blogs and got onto something with your own name.  If you need domain name ideas, just ask!
