Thou Shalt Not Question Barak Obama

profile3_obama This is the first time in my life that I can remember a politician getting the “Messiah” type treatment.  Yes, I’ve lived through the Reagan sweep of 1984, but I’ve never witnessed what Sen. Obama is attempting to do, with good success.

He’s attempting to make anything that would be a negative for him to be off limits for discussion or even mention!

It started with his middle name– Hussein.  He can use it, but “you” can’t.  Why?  Because it attaches him with another Hussein.  It has baggage.

And then there was his pastor.  First, the line was that he was hardly there, and didn’t know all the things his pastor said.  As the public refused to back down, he said it was an issue right before publicly condemning the pastor– setting up a weird standard.

Even now, there continues to be a series of things that the media will or won’t do, that they are allowed to do or not to do.  For instance, when I say Dan Quayle, what do you think of?  Odds are “P-O-T-A-T-O-E.”  I don’t know how many sites out there chronicle “Bushisms”, nor how many times Candidate Bush’s linguistic jujitsu came up for discussion.

And yet Obama can make verbal gaffes like talking about dead soldiers being at a memorial day remembrance service and the media looks the other way.

Don’t get me wrong, verbal gaffes are just that.  We all make them every day, and even though we all aren’t on a public stage, we should cut people some slack– or at least treat them equally.

But that’s what comes with being the media’s anointed candidate– they can do no wrong.

Just like this latest thing where Sen. McCain asked Sen. Obama to go with him to Iraq to see the situation.  Obama doesn’t want to go there.  McCain said that those that are running for Commander-in-Chief should go see the biggest foreign policy issue first hand.

Why is it just McCain who’s criticizing Obama over this?
