Text Link Ads – Promote My Site, Please!

This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series Making Money While Blogging

Text Link Ads (and their accompanying banner ads) carry a similar problem to Pay Per Post, but they also pay better than most of the other money-making systems.

The problem that’s similar to PPP is that people are trying to get links on your site so that they can get “Google Juice” and reach your audience. And yet these ads pay the best and allow you to have a great deal of control over what gets displayed on your site.

WP Text Ads

WP Text Ads is one of the services that let you sell ads right from your blog. You control all aspects of the deal, from marketing your site to getting ads to approving ads and controlling where they are displayed and for how long.

With this control comes the hassle of getting people to come by, negotiating terms, etc.

By the way, this is a terrific way to support a site you like and get traffic to your own site. For instance, you could buy an ad spot on this very post for $5 and it would go to support me and have a link to you for 30 days.

Text Link Ads

Text Link Ads takes this one step further and does the work of finding the advertisers for you. Drop some code on your blog and they will sell spots on your site in much the same way WP Text Ads does. You can choose to validate every ad (within 24 hours) and their network is larger than doing it yourself.

How does it pay?

I’ve only done this for a little while– and have very few of these ads. They can be good paying, but they really seem hard to get at my level of the blog. I’m sure if I were PR5 I would probably get more people clamoring to place their ad here.

I like the control that I have over what gets displayed, but the haggling can sometimes be difficult running it yourself.

There’s also a service you can run yourself that lets you put little icons up on your site. This is kinda neat, but I still think that my blog’s too small or the wrong audience to reach people that would want to do this kind of thing.
