Saving Money

My Day at Shea

Shea StadiumI don’t know how long I’ve been a Los Angeles Dodgers fan.  I think I was born that way– since my dad was a Dodgers fan (even though we lived on the east coast).

At some point, my dad and a bunch of guys from the church decided that they would like to go down and watch a baseball game, and so when the Dodgers came to town to play the Mets, the Met fans from the church as well as my dad and another man would all pile into a van to go down to New York City and catch a night game and then head all the way back late into the night.  (Always talking about who trusted whom to drive that late at night.)

As I got older, I got my chance to make the trip.  One of the neat things that you learn on these trips is that it’s always special to take a trip with dad.  My first trip, I believe, was with my father, brothers, and my grandfather.  My dad always grabbed a bag of pre-salted peanuts to take into the game, and I remembered just the sheer size of the place, being way up where I had to use binoculars just to see the players, but I was thrilled to be there.

I say all this because there are places that are really neat to go and visit– places like Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, etc. and what’s neat is that there are actually tours that are now arranged to take you through these places and show you the sites.

Trusted Travels is one of them, and they’re having a special deal for anyone who signs up for the Trusted Travel eNewsletter.  If you sign up before December 31, 2007, you’ll be entered in a chance to win an iPod Nano.  So, this is two contests all in one day!

Just thinking about this reminded me of those great times, and thinking ahead to the times that I’ll have to spend with my kids.  I bet it was a whole lot cheaper to watch a baseball game back then, though!
