A Spirit of Community

Paper People One of the big things that’s different between blogging on a site like blogger, typepad or wordpress.com and blogging out with your own domain is that you actually have to seek out relationships in order to get people to visit your site.

You see, these sites all have communities built around them.  You can see what people are posting about, your dashboard shows you recent posts by topic, and there is a little network that helps you get new visitors.

Who Would the Apostle Paul Vote For?

ballot I’ve been covering Huckabee a lot in the past few days– and for good reason.  Right now, my vote is his to lose.  But there are things that could make me change my mind.  The biggest problem that I have is that I believe that he believes that government is the answer to some problems that I think government should stay out of.  Which got me thinking this morning– who would the Apostle Paul vote for if he were here in the U.S. in 2007.

5,000th Comment

surfing Monday, December 17, 2007 was the day that the 5,000th Comment was written here at MInTheGap.

This is quite the milestone for this little blog.  It’s hard to believe that we’ve gotten this far, and so, in case you’re wondering, here’s the top 10 all time commenters and their totals:

Merry Christmas

Christmas Wrapping 4This Christmas time remember the baby in the manger– the Gift that was given to each and everyone of us.  That Gift that was given without a credit card purchase, is just the right color, and is matchless in scope.

Jesus Christ– the babe that would grow up to die in our place, so that we might live.

Share this gift with those that do not have Him at this Christmas time– and receive joy in return!

Which is the True Picture of This Generation?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Some of you know of Wendy Shalit as the author of Girls Gone Mild, but did you also know that she wrote an article in the latest Wall Street Journal’s online Opinion Journal?

What I found interesting was that she talked about the difference between what she’s seeing in young ladies and what Dr. Phil claims is going on:

I lost count of the number of times that the children portrayed their parents as clueless, frumpy or “just old.” It’s “just two different generations,” the viewer was told again and again. One young woman suggested that her elders were “jealous” because their wrinkly bodies were no longer attractive.

Light Reading this Week

Being that this week will be pretty crazy with travel, I wanted to let you know that it will probably be a little scarce around here as far as my comments, but I’ll be highlighting some things I’ve been reading with short posts and clips from the sites.

As far as my schedule, tomorrow’s Christmas with my parents, Tuesday is Christmas with my family, and Wednesday is Christmas with my in-laws.

Hope that you are also having a fantastic holiday season, and that God will bless you now and in the year to come.

How do You Network?

Cafe Meeting One of the goals I have for next year as far as blogging goes is building up my blogging network.  That means I hope to spend more time interacting with all of you both here and beyond, but also working together to meet new people.

I have two current methods I use for finding people of like interest.  First, I use Technorati and search for keywords that match some of my interests.  I also use StumbleUpon to find sites that are the same way.

Perhaps I need to do some other kind of Blogger Search like using Blogoria or more networking through friends comments.  One thing’s for certain, though.  I want to make a priority to get involved in conversations on other’s blogs because that’s what makes this the most fun.

Makeup and Photoshop Do Wonders

No Such Thing as an Ugly Woman A lot was made of a picture this past week on the Drudge Report that showed Hillary Clinton looking old and run down. The fact is that these people are under tremendous stress and pressure, putting in more hours than normal, and they’re not young by any stretch of the imagination.

And yet, we definitely hold our women to higher standards. Take a look at the picture at right. The picture shows on the bottom nine women wearing their finest clothes and makeup and then links them to their regular selves at the top of the page. I’ll give you a minute to get to the other page and continue when you get back.
