I'm thankful that most of the family gifts can be home-baked/made. Last year we had a little more money than usual at Christmas, and the lesson I learned is that Christmas is much more enjoyable when everyone has one or two nice gifts rather than a multitude of little things to unwrap. The whole process gets annoying after a while!! Not to mention old for the kids. They're so happy with one or two fun gifts, and by the time you've been to both grandparents and all the cousins and exchange all those gifts, whew! I think it's really neat that you and your wife do this planning together. Usually I'm prodding my dh, saying, what are we going to get your dad, or your brother, or your boss? ;) And he just stares at me unblinking. We do have fun shopping together for the kiddos though.
