Taking the Stress Out Of Moving
And I thought that selling the house was stressful.
It’s been almost two months since we decided that it was time to sell our house. Time to get away from the neighborhood, the theft, the teens next door, and the small house. Time to find a place that could fit our family comfortably and allow us to have plenty of room to homeschool.
And then, we found out just how much of a pain it would be to show the house– sure, the first open house was a breeze. It was just the times when someone would call and want to see the house in a couple of hours that was rough. And then there was the every other day cleaning along with my pastor’s declining health… Now our kids are sick. It just never seems to end.
The problem is, we’ll eventually sell our house, and then the real stress begins. Not only do we not have a house to go to (my parents will let us have some space in their house for the short term), but most likely it will mean moving twice. How many here have moved with three small children, let me see your hands?
The last time we moved it was just a few blocks away– and we had some church people to help. But we had to arrange to get a truck, and try to find people to help, and we broke the front window trying to get our couch in. I’m not looking forward to moving this time around, let alone moving twice!
It’s enough to make me want to hire some professional movers to do the job for us! The neat thing is, there are websites out there that will give you free moving tips and gives you a resource for finding and getting quotes from local and Interstate moving companies! HomeBulletin.net provides all of this, and more:
- Full Service Moving Companies

It’s all at their site. So, whether you’re moving yourself, or you’re looking for someone to move all of your stuff for you, check out HomeBulletin.net and see how they can help.

I love these personal updates, will be praying that it sells well in God’s perfect timing, and that the right place opens up for your family. Don’t stress about it, who knows what God has in store?
(not trying to downplay trying to move with 3 small children…) :S

Uh, I wish Icouldn’t relate.
Just moved 11 hours away, with three small children and me expecting…and four other kids to boot.
The showing of the house is hard. The moving is hard.
I’m no help, am I? Wish I were…. Seems to be one of those things where you just have to bite the bullet and do what needs to be done. And yes, God’s grace will sustain you!

So, Holly, were your older kids of any help? Certainly I would expect that they could at least help pack. One of the problems that we’re having with cleaning with younger children is that they just want to get stuff out!
Just had an open house yesterday and no one came. We’ll be praying about next steps here– maybe this isn’t the right time.

The big kids were a great help. GREAT HELP! The big boys are almost able to do men’s work.
And yet…there are still 9 people to cook for, to wash clothing for, to settle squabbles over…and to deal with their emotions over leaving friends and loved ones and with their fears over what their new lives will bring….
And three little people to unload everything out of boxes and to help pack the phone in an ambiguous box and cups of milk in unmarked boxes to spoil….

CUHRAZEEEEEE! Little people are hard to move with, that is for sure. You need God’s grace!
I believe that the showing of the house is one of the hardest things, ever! You work so hard to make it clean and spotless…often to have a no show or no interest…so hard!
Hang in there. You can do it! (You really NEED people to cheer you on right now!)

Hey Holly– it was almost enough to make us throw in the towel yesterday Sunday with the no-show. We had 5 showings last week and had one really low-ball offer and thought we had another coming.
The even more stressful part is that we really don’t have a place to go besides my parent’s house should our house sell. We’ve been looking for a really long time.
I am confident, however, that God will not let our house sell until He has the place that we should be ready to go.

Not to belabor the point…but…I hear you. I DO understand. We just went thru this! Needing to move, not having a house…thinking we would need to live with my parents for a time but being unable to imagine that, truly(!) It came right down to the wire. We signed on our current house at the end of July, and moved August 8th.
The house needs work…lots of work…but was SO CHEAP (16,500) for 1900 sq feet that we bought it outright. No mortgage. And so…lots of work, lots of vision necessary, maybe even another move in the future to find something that fits us better - BUT - it got us here, we were willing to do the work, willing to believe that since this was what God provided this was His plan.
I wouldn’t DREAM of telling you what to do or even trying to…just trying to say that if God is in it, He will make it work out properly. I am very sorry for the struggles with the showings, the offers…all of it. It is so hard. SO HARD! I trust that He will guide you!
