Do We Really Need to Exploit Women This Way?

If it didn’t bother you that coffee shops were serving the public in sexualized attire, that waitresses at the Heart Attack Grill wear sexy nurse outfits, or that there is a car wash where women wear next to nothing simply for the reason that they did these things behind closed doors and you could choose to ignore them, the latest form of exploitation is not going to be as easy to ignore:

The women of Tiger Time Lawn Care offer to mow customers’ lawns dressed in bikinis — a service that attracts more attention to the ladies than the lawns.

“Oh yeah, they honk and yell. They can do everything you can imagine,” said employee Blair Beckman, 21.

Beckman said the extra attention is expected, but she looks on the bright side.

“You get the attention but you also get a tan, which I need,” Beckman said.

Owner Lee Cathey said the bikini service makes mowing the lawn a lot more interesting, although the fee is slightly higher.

So, you’re driving down the street, and there’s a woman in a bikini mowing the lawn– what are you going to do?!  Offer sunscreen?

Seriously, though, it’s getting to the point that it’s not just billboards that you’ll have to avoid, but also those that are taking care of the grass.  Though I wonder just how much business they will get.  I don’t know if the ladies of some houses are going to take well to some girl in a bikini working their lawn.

At some point we have to say, “enough”, and somehow reintroduce the concept that “just because I can doesn’t make it right.”

  1. Whats interesting about this particular exploit is its not contained within a certain atmosphere that someone has to choose to be a part of e.g. Its not in a special restaurant or a special car wash. As a result it puts other people in a place where they have to see things they might not want to see.

I’m wondering if this will actually catch on, however. It seems that if someone was going to do this all day, they would get VERY sunburned. Certainly if it does catch on there will be a class action lawsuit in about 20 years for former employees with skin cancer.

In the meantime if you want to draw attention when your lawn is mowed in a more appropriate fashion, check this out. http://www.friendlyrobotics.com/ . These things are really cool ;-). When we finally sell our house I’ll probably sell our riding mower and buy one ;-).

  2. What I want to know is how these ladies have the energy to mow lawns all day…. Typically this is male work, so now they are not only “doing man’s work” but they have to do it practically naked.

Course… when we go to the beach or pool or on mostly any vacation (except those which are like camping and even then!) welll anyway, my point is you can hardly avoid the bikini ladies. Any magazine or billboards… bikinis. Even little girls in bikinis! YUCK, used to be a day when I would wear a bikini, now I nearly blush to see OTHERS wearing one! LOL…

  3. Mrs. Logan I would hardly call mowing lawns “man’s work”. I actually take great offense to it being called so. My grandmother, my mother, and I have all mowed lawns for cash. My grandmother currently makes her living off it. To say that she is out of her place by having a job she chose is nothing short of insulting. I am sorry for the semi-rant but I think your comment was way out of line.

As far as what the women were wearing, if you desire for them to respect your life style you, you should show them the same respect for their lifestyle. If you hide your childs eyes and talk badly about them, do not feel suprised or angered when they do the same to you.
