Exactly, Doug. I'm sure that's why all these places want you to roll your credit into your Home Equity-- that way they can get you to stretch out your cards again. It's a behavior adjustment, and that's best done by not having it available to use.

We're very blessed in that even though we have the one account, and it is still open, we don't have the cards in our wallet/purse, don't know the number, and never even think of it as an option.

Now, if we can only make it out of the debt that we have-- we're getting down to the wire. (I'll be updating the progress bar shortly!)

Just to add to what MinTheGap is saying... if you roll your cards all into one card, or a home equity loan, etc, cancel and shred the cards you paid off. This way they are not there to be available to you should you somehow get the urge at somepoint to spend money you don't have.

From what I understand its very common for people to roll all their high interest debt into a Home Equity Loan with the intention of paying it all of... then just racking up the bills again on their credit cards, defeating the whole purpose and putting them farther in debt.

Dave Ramsey is a rock star! I got out of debt using his methods! He is going to be speaking at our church in a few weeks and I'm so excited! I catch his radio podcast occassionally and he is a great motivator!
