Should Our Women be in Combat?

1 man stands

In comparison to the Marines I mentioned yesterday, when confronted by the terrorist Moussaoui at his trial, a female U.S. Navy luitenant was crying on the witness stand. The things she had seen and people she had lost had an impact on her. But this was used against her by the terrorist, and no doubt played to the enemy’s glee over and over on Terrorist TV.

Is this another reason for not having women in combat roles? I’m sure there are pretty tough women out there. I’m sure that there are some wimpy guys. But in this case, and I’m sure that in many cases, women tend to emotionally relate to things with tears, and men tend to relate by being tough, grieving in private, and internalizing things. This would have allowed for our nation to not look week in the face of terrorists.

They already mock our armed forces (when they aren’t hiding from them) for having women in leadership positions. We have to modify our codes of conduct in their presence, and have to put on a show for them. They insult and have less respect for our Secretary of State being a woman– and I’m not suggesting that we bow to them. What I am suggesting is that maybe, in the field of combat where guts and glory are what’s at stake and our purpose is to kill people and break things, we should keep the women out.

Keep them out because, on the whole, they aren’t as physically able to do what a man can do. Keep them out because they are not equipped to handle emotions the same way as men. Keep them out because of the aid and comfort it gives to the enemy and how much we hate to have our little girls returned to us maimed and wounded. (Not that we like our boys coming home that way either!)

  1. Can we trust a woman’s feelings as to whether she’s capable to withstand combat, or should we look at how women have faired in the past and base the decision on that?

  2. I think we should leave it up to the individual women to choose. We’ve left the times behind when men got to dictate everything that women did. The only man whose decisions for my life I will accept are my husband’s. Now, I love him and submit to him entirely, but I have learned that marriage is not something I am particularly gifted at. If my husband (God forbid) dies before me, I will not marry again. I will then (thank God!) be free to make my own decisions as long as they are within God’s commands for me, and not be under the jurisdiction of men who think they know what I can do better than I do. šŸ™‚

Rather than feel bad about women in particular being injured in war, we should feel bad about war and work ceaselessly to follow God’s Word so that war might be avoided. šŸ™‚ Just my two cents!

  3. One thing more, sorry I couldn’t find the link to edit my comment, but in response to the statement, “women are not equipped to handle emotions the same way as men”. It could be argued that this is a pro, not a con. One of my favourite Christian speakers, Jimmy Evans (famous for his Marriage On The Rock series), says that women are toughest on the inside, men toughest on the outside. I had no idea how thoroughly I was able to cripple my husband with just a few harsh words. Once I learned how to talk to my husband, our marriage changed dramatically.

Men do not come home from war in better shape than women. Do some searches for ex-servicemen who have killed their wives and children and even themselves after their service in war. Neither gender is “equipped” for war. JMHO.

  4. As long as that rare woman who can hang with the men feels comfortable being the only woman in her platoon, fine. Otherwise, were going to have to suffer for the fact that women who can hang with the men in combat are rare on their own merit.

As far as I know, there are only six women alive who can bench press as much as I can now–305 lb. And I’m a fat, out of shape slug. Men, believe it or not, are built for combat and women aren’t. If people were willing to face that fact, the exceptional female warrior might be welcomed.

  5. I believe the special rules for letting women into the army should be dropped, and if she wishes to get in she must go through the same trials as her male counterparts. To say that the opinions of those who murder our people in cold blood should effect our policy is ridiculous, though. Are you going to say that the bible should be banned from book stores because a lunatic burned down one for containing the bible. Of course you wouldn’t. You’d would be furious at any who would even suggest such a thing. Don’t let the terrorist win, uphold the american way no matter how hard the murderers try to crush us!
